Meet Lee Roth | Co-Founder

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lee Roth and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lee, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve always been an entrepreneur. I love building businesses that authentically solve pain in a marketplace. The marketing services industry is flawed in many ways. I believe my partner Pio Schunker and I have the right model and experience to solve at least some of those flaws.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Our company is called The Actionists. We are a marketing consultancy dedicated to making marketing more actionable to the business, i.e. making it more effective. Unlike most consultancies, our model sells products at fixed costs – a brand architecture / vision, innovation, a core creative idea. We utilize the top Chief Strategy Officers, marketing executives and Chief Creative Officers to deliver best in class thinking at speed at an efficient cost (compared to the big guys).
Pio and I spent many years as marketers and thought about each pain point with the marketing service industry, and how we can build a new model that addresses those pains. We then put alot of thought and consideration in building the discipline behind our products. We addressed everything from expertise to price to timing.
We’ve been fortunate not only to work with some incredible companies (Colgate, Kimberly Clark, Newell Brands, etc), but more importantly incredible marketers and human beings at those companies. At this point in our careers, we only want to work with people we truly enjoy, and we’ve been lucky enough to have that experience.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting, I’d probably take him out of my little town and explore the surrounding areas.
We’d kick off the experience at Yankee Stadium for a game. We’ll hit up Stans beforehand for a drink or two.
We’d then go upstate to the Catskills. Go for a hike at Kaaterskill Falls, grab a taco at Tinker Taco in Woodstock and then a cocktail at the Early Terrible.
We’d stay at Rose and Reed’s Retreat, a beautiful airbnb in Athens, NY. Next day we’d hang out at the lake, play some tennis, hit the hot tub back at the house, have a big bbq and bonfire.
And then we’d leave the rest of the time to be spontaneous.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I believe at every chapter in my life, there have been strong influences who have mentored and shaped who I am today. But I think my experience at Salisbury University that had the most influence in me finding myself and my voice. There were a few administrators and professors there that helped me through my journey – Dr. Merwin, Dr. Beebe, Dr. Hoffman and Dr. Diriker among many others.
