Meet Larry Roseboro | Menswear Fashion Designer & Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Larry Roseboro and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Larry, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
A challenge from my mother my freshman year of high school; we were shopping for school clothing and I just couldn’t find anything I like or wanted to wear…so she challenged me to think outside of the box and bet me that I couldn’t make an outfit out of some golf trousers lol (not the regular pants you golf in but the ones that can be pulled up and tied at the knee; like the ones in a Ralph Lauren ad). So I accepted the challenge and pair it with a big horse Ralph Lauren polo (which actually was a huge trend back in 2006; I believe Kanye and Fonzworth Bentley start that). But from there I started think to myself about how many other men out there like myself that can find anything they would like to wear, not even excited to shop because look at our options pertaining to clothing…boring, flat, muted colors…. Not even grandpa like it lol. So The HAUS OF MAX REX VIII is the answer for guy that want to be excited and proud of what their wearing; we aim to elevate your image and bring your wardrobe wishes to life…my team and I believe in fashion follows life and can convey how one feels and how one feels without words…we aim to respect that which God has given in his likeness…your image…
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Well, I am a model/stylist/PR Assistant/image consultant turned menswear designer that got into fashion because he saw a need to diversify the menswear market because I wasn’t see a lot or any other options for men to dress up besides a suit… so taking all of the information and knowledge from college, industry mentors like The Great André Leon Talley and Frank Debrino of American Vogue and formulated an identity based of what the highest level of sewed garment is a suit and wanted to almost take what the suit is and make it cooler, more exciting, something more than just for the office, weddings or funerals…. I want to reintroduce the “leisure wear suit” in new modern ways and completely break alllllllllll of the tailored wear rules and create a garment that men can get excited to wear, that’s completely them and elevates, celebrates you and makes you feel great because you look amazing and you know for facts nobody else has what you have because, it’s only one of that particular suit and style, personally made for you… it’s a better grab at bespoke tailoring than made-to-measure suit or store ready suit can ever give you. I literally took 5 to 6 years to master a menswear pattern I originally made based off 2 of my Bestfriends measurements and my own to get 4 different sizes (thank God for my master pattern maker Mrs. Christina or Estina Designs ) I took my time. Which is in essence the story of my professional career; being observant, being open to others and their ideas, lifestyles and NEW YORK CITY!!!! I love NYC like I love THE BULL CITY and they love me too… a ton of what I do is definitely influenced by individuals around me; day 1’s, family and mentors a like; they raised me showed me how to stay a float without losing yourself and when to hold’em and fold’em. Lessons learned upon lessons to learn, a hard road but well worth the knowledge…. I can do things most designers don’t or can do… like grading patterns, building a suit from scratch, I had to learn the basics first then I could pick and choose which ones to keep and which ones to break. Most designers don’t even touch their garments their all factory made or by someone else; not me. What I would like for people to know about the brand is that not only do we make everything by hand, we stand on quality, we’re just not trying to sell you our lifestyle and brand, we’re saying that our brand is YOU. It’s not the clothes, it’s the soul… psychologically speaking you look good, you feel good….we want to make you feel Great while also elevating a garment many of us men find punishing, stuffy and uncomfortable. An image not based on a societal outlook but your own. Taking what we have and making it new again for this generation and today’s modern men
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well breakfasts at Briggs or First Watch first because all of my friends, family and colleagues know that Larry must EAT BREAKFAST LOL no exceptions…and a good one. Then off to a nice trail like the Eno river trails ,Durham Tabacco trail or the Duke Sarah P. Gardens take a like spiked drink in a water bottle and some snacks and vibe look at nature…then go over my Bestfriend house and chill over there always a great time drinking, possibly smoking, talking about life and plotting our next moves for the year. Then off to dinner at Maggiano’s at The Streets of Southpoint with mom and the crew…they know me know me because, 1. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My Mother and women of my family. My grandmother (mom’s mother) was a garment factory manager and help produce clothing for major businesses like Nike and Adidas. My Mothers degree is in science of textiles and was a gofer/assistant for a soho designer in the late 80’s. So it’s kinda apart of my DNA, I was born into it…and the craft lives through me on so many different levels
