Meet LaChelle Davis-Moore | President, NHBW-QCC

We had the good fortune of connecting with LaChelle Davis-Moore and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi LaChelle, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
Since 1974, NHBW has been dedicated to uplifting women and families by supporting the entire community, not just individual parts. A key focus of our efforts is literacy, as we recognize that children who do not become proficient readers by third grade face a heightened risk of falling into the school-to-prison pipeline. To combat this, we engage directly with children through reading initiatives, empower parents to foster literacy at home, and encourage families to build a strong foundation for success. Our impact is strengthened through meaningful partnerships that amplify our mission and drive lasting change.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
National Hook -up of Black Women, Inc-Queen City Chapter mission is to improve the lives of women and their families through support of the arts, culture, education, health and wellness, and human service programs. In 2025, we kicked off our program year with enthusiasm, proudly participating in the Martin Luther King Day Parade, a meaningful day of service. February saw us engaging in the African American Read-In, where we read to over 1,300 elementary students, fostering a love for literacy. Next, we hosted the Youth, Teen & Collegiate (YTC) Lock-In, empowering a remarkable group of young women. In March, in partnership with ViiV Healthcare, we launched the Way Makers Movement, making a powerful impact on health and wellness. As April arrived, we continued our mission by collaborating with the Black Child Book Fair at Naomi Drenan. Without a doubt, we started the year committed and ready to serve.
As the only chapter in Charlotte, we are dedicated to partnership and service, striving to make a meaningful impact in our community. With 22 chapters across the United States, we are part of a broader network committed to empowering and uplifting those we serve.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would plan a memorable journey for her:
Day 1, starting with a delicious brunch at Sol Delish. In the afternoon, we would explore history at the Levine Museum, immersing ourselves in its rich stories. To end the day, we’d enjoy a flavorful dinner at Mr. Charles Chicken & Fish, savoring a perfect meal to wrap up an eventful day.
On Day 2, we would start with a visit to the Harvey B. Gantt Center for African American Arts, exploring its inspiring exhibitions and cultural narratives. For lunch, we’d enjoy a delicious meal at Cuzzo’s Cuisine, savoring its comforting flavors. To end the day on a high note, we’d attend a show at the Blumenthal Theater, taking in an engaging performance.
Day 3 would start with exploring the vibrant NoDa area, taking in the art, culture, and unique atmosphere. We’d then settle at a cozy coffee spot like Not Just Coffee to relax and recharge. In the afternoon, adventure awaits at Whitewater, where ziplining adds an exhilarating twist to the day. To wrap up the evening, we’d head to Optimist Hall, where an array of food options ensures the perfect way to end the day with great flavors and conversation.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am profoundly grateful to my Chapter sisters and associates, especially my immediate past president, Pat Lee for believing in me even before I fully embraced my own potential. Your support and encouragement have meant the world to me. To my executive team: my chaos coordinators, you always manage to see the bigger picture, bringing clarity to the journey. To all my committee chairs, thank you for hearing me, trusting the process, and working alongside me to create a greater impact. And to my family, your patience, understanding, and unwavering support, allowing me to brainstorm, meet on Zoom, and wholeheartedly serve both you and the community, mean everything. I couldn’t do this without you.
