We had the good fortune of connecting with L.I.F.E. LONG and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi L.I.F.E., what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
As an artist things sometimes can get overwhelming. Especially when trying to be seen and heard. I felt like there was always some type of process of going through some type of gate keeper or force controlling. Once I started putting out my art independently, I was able to connect with my fans direct. I also was able to keep most of the prophets instead of having to give a company a percentage etc.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am an emcee. I have been creating, and performing Hip-hop music for over 2 decades. I would say my style and approach sets me apart from other artists within the Hip-hop culture. I try to touch concepts not spoken on before. I also try to always go outside of the box when creating. I would say determination, practice and not giving up helped me get to the level that i am today. With being able to travel the world and to have my music appear on video games as well as being able to travel the world off music is something that i am proud of. The road traveled was definitely not easy and is still difficult trying to get discovered as an independent artist. Some of the lessons i learned along the way was Not to take No for an answer, Be self-sufficient., and knowing that your best support will come from the people that don’t know you personally but know your craft! I want people to know that L.I.F.E.LONG and my company cocconmovements is here to bring you the best of progressive Hip-Hop music. Hoping that my music will reach even more people globally. I want to be remembered as an artist who always tried to take his craft to the next level.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If hanging out in my city New York. I would definitely suggest that you buy a metro card that allows you to pay for the subway. That in my opinion is the best way to really see the city. Getting on the subway and visiting the 5 borough’s Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, Bronx, Staten Island is fascinating seeing the diversity of each borough and how it still connects with city itself. I myself am Vegetarian so i would definitely have you check out some of the best plant-based restaurants that the city has to offer. For night life we would definitely catch a comedy show somewhere in the city or if it’s the 3rd Friday of any month. You can come out to Brooklyn where me and my Crew “Da Sessions Crew” throw a monthly hip-hop showcase showcasing producers and emcees.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shout out the MHB crew, which is a collective of artists, producers, emcees. That is a collective that i am a part of. We all push each other artistically. Shout out to Nickel who is always pushing members of the crew to be seen and heard. He actually was the plug behind this interview!
