We had the good fortune of connecting with Krista Morehead and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Krista, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
The beauty industry is very inclusive, especially in terms of owning a beauty supply store. Our store, Personal Treasures Beauty Supply & Salon, is one of the only Black-Owned Beauty Supply Stores in Greensboro. Being a black-owned business in an industry where there are few of our kind, we have faced systemic obstacles to provide for our customers. Despite these hurdles, we remain dedicated to providing exceptional products and services to our valued customers.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Personal Treasures Beauty Supply is a small, Black-owned beauty supply store located in Greensboro, North Carolina. What makes us unique is our unwavering dedication to our customers. As a family-owned business, we treat everyone who walks through our doors like family! We take pride in providing exceptional service, listening to customer feedback, and continually improving to meet your needs. Our deep knowledge of haircare is another distinguishing factor—our experienced stylists are here to answer any questions and recommend the best products for your hair needs.

One of the keys to our growth has been embracing the role of content creators. Engaging on social media and creating content has helped us expand our clientele by at least 50% over the past year. Collaborating with my grandad to teach him about social media and TikTok trends has been a challenge, but it’s a rewarding experience that we enjoy.

In a world where online shopping and large platforms dominate, we encourage everyone to remember the importance of supporting local small businesses. For us, customer support isn’t just about business—it’s our lifeline. Every purchase made in our store helps sustain the business and provides for our family. After 17 years in operation, we hope to pass this business down through generations, continuing to serve our community for years to come.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Favorite Sports in the City:

For day food and drinks – House Divided Bottles and Taps ( 616 Dolley Madison Rd, Greensboro, NC 27410) is one of my favorites. I have been a customer of there’s since they started a couple of years as a wine bar and enjoy getting good soul food and margaritas from them every Wednesday.

Green Valley Grill is also another one of my favorites when I want an upscale scenery and a boozy cocktail.

For facials and makeup/eyelash extensions – Rare Beauty Esthetics (@rarebeautyesthetics) offers the best and most affordable soothing spa services. The owner, Tori, also offers luxury lash extensions which is my favorite service of hers. She actually did my makeup for the photos used for this feature.

For a nice trail walk: County Park has a beautiful and historic trail walk. It has 13 miles of trails, 3 parks, 1 historical site, and 1 science center

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I definitely want to shout out my Grandad, Everett Bruce, or “Coach Bruce” to those who know him. Coach Bruce originally started Personal Treasures by peddling and selling beauty products to hair salons and stylists, he officially opened the store in 2007. Since then, the store has expanded from a small wig store to a full beauty supply and licensed salon. I joined the business in 2016 and my grandad allowed me to have full creativity in transforming the store! I also would like to shout out our loyal customers, without you all we would not have lasted for 17 years. We appreciate everyone who supports our social media and our small business.
