Meet Kiki Parker | Seizure First Aid Trainer Instructor and a PhD student

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kiki Parker and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kiki, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My goal in starting this business is to empower underrepresented minorities, particularly those in low-income communities, by providing them with opportunities to further their education. Education is a powerful tool that can break down barriers and open doors to better career opportunities, and I believe everyone, regardless of their background or socioeconomic status, should have access to it. By creating accessible educational pathways, I hope to inspire and motivate these young individuals to pursue their academic dreams and rise above the challenges they may face in their communities. A major focus of my work is to introduce teenagers to the world of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). STEM fields are often seen as intimidating or out of reach for many, particularly in underserved areas. Through engaging, hands-on activities, I aim to demonstrate that learning about these fields can be fun, exciting, and rewarding. By providing practical experiences, I will help teens connect what they are learning to real-world applications, sparking their curiosity and inspiring them to explore careers they might not have previously considered. Ultimately, my vision is to foster both the interest and growth of these teens in STEM disciplines, helping them develop the skills and confidence they need to succeed. Through mentorship, workshops, and community engagement, I want to create a supportive environment where young people feel empowered to chase their passions, build their talents, and pursue careers in STEM fields. By providing these opportunities, I hope to make a lasting impact, encouraging the next generation of innovators, problem-solvers, and leaders.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a Seizure First Aid Trainer/Instructor and currently pursuing a PhD in Nanoengineering at North Carolina A&T State University. My academic journey in a demanding and cutting-edge field like Nanoengineering has given me a unique perspective on the importance of both education and community engagement. I am passionate about combining my scientific knowledge with a commitment to making a tangible impact, especially within underserved communities. Alongside my academic pursuits, I founded Youth Power Encouragement (YPE) and Rise Up Youth, two organizations dedicated to empowering the next generation. These platforms serve as a way to mentor young people, particularly underrepresented minorities, and guide them towards realizing their full potential. Through Youth Power Encouragement and Rise Up Youth, my mission is to encourage and support underrepresented minorities, particularly in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields. I firmly believe that everyone should have the opportunity to pursue education and careers in STEM, no matter their background. By providing mentorship, resources, and hands-on learning experiences, I hope to break down the barriers that often discourage young people from entering these fields. I strive to foster an environment where they feel empowered to explore their interests, challenge themselves, and ultimately succeed in areas that are historically less accessible to them. As a woman in STEM, I take great pride in advocating for diversity, equity, and inclusion within the field. I recognize that there are many challenges that come with being underrepresented, but I also see these challenges as opportunities to advocate for change. I work tirelessly to create pathways for others to follow similar journeys and reach their goals. Through my work, I share with my community the importance of advocating for oneself and others, educating each other, and offering support when it’s needed most. Together, I believe we can create a more inclusive and empowered future, where every individual has the chance to thrive and contribute to the advancement of STEM and beyond.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend were visiting for a week, I’d plan an itinerary that combines exciting adventures, cultural experiences, and delicious food! We could go on a scenic hike or visit a nearby botanical garden to enjoy nature or an art museum. On one of the nights, we could enjoy a fancy dinner at a high-end steakhouse or seafood place for a more luxurious experience. I’d also make sure to carve out time for some fun local hangouts, like a lively arcade or a casual spot for wine tasting. Ending the trip with a relaxed evening, maybe watching a hockey game at a bar with great nachos and a chill vibe, would be the perfect way to wrap up a week of fun and memories.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost, I give ALL the credit to God, as I dedicate my business to Him. Without His guidance and strength, none of this would be possible. However, I am also incredibly grateful for the village of support groups, mentors, and individuals who have encouraged me throughout this journey. From my family and friends to colleagues and community leaders, their unwavering belief in me has been a constant source of inspiration. Their support has played a pivotal role in helping me overcome challenges, stay motivated, and remain focused on my mission. I truly couldn’t have come this far without their prayers and support.
