Meet Kicherra Chisolm | Artist & Therapeutic Art Instructor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kicherra Chisolm and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kicherra, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I wanted to find a way to encourage others to create and to heal through art.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have been an artist longer than I can remember. I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t creating. Not only do I love making art but I love to share my art and teach other to create as well. My artwork is a mixture of realism and abstract. I have always loved pop art and it’s influence is embedment in my style of art by using bold line, colors, and simplistic shapes and images. I functioned a the resident artist at a local art studio for six years where I taught and instructed art lessons and paint parties. After several request I began to teach private art lessons. One thing that I learned is that when you focus on what you love opportunities will follow you. One challenge that I have faced is not having consistent clients or students. One way that I overcame that was by offering online art lessons and paint parties. Although art is beautiful to create and share there are many other benefits for art. Art is a form of healing. After falling into a season of depression I began art journaling again. I decided to get certified as a therapeutic art instructor to help others find peace with art.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

Charlotte Comedy City Tour

Mint Museum Uptown

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I received most of my support from literature and family. I have always loved to read so I typically look to lighterage for support. Some of the books that have helped me start and purpose in my business are “The Magic of Thinking Big”, “The Alchemist”, and “Miracle Power of the Mind”. Sometimes it hard for people to understand or support your vision. This is why I utilize books to keep me motivated and optimist.
