We had the good fortune of connecting with Kenya R. Ransom and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kenya R., we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was very much all about the right timing. I’ve never wanted to have my own magazine however I knew that I wanted to tell stories of others, but it was hard finding the right fit, so I created what I wanted to see. I was in the process of just jumping around trying to find where I wanted to be in the publisher industry, I didn’t see it and as reluctant as it was, I decided to start what I wanted to covey in this world. I wanted to make sure that individuals who are well kept secrets in their industry that we told the stories of their ups, downs, and ultimately their success! I didn’t find that and that’s what I wanted to create in this world.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
This is a great question! As a publisher, what truly sets me apart is my genuine, authentic approach to connecting with the individuals that I feature in my magazine. I’m not just conducting surface-level interviews; I take the time to dig deep and truly understand the person behind the story. My goal isn’t just to gather information; it’s to craft a narrative that truly captures the human experience. I want my readers to feel like they’ve gained a profound understanding of the person being profiled, almost as if they’ve met them in person

I’m really excited about the many people that I will feature in the future, like it brings me joy researching various hidden gems and telling their story, it’s a joy to be able to get in the trenches with them and assisting them in however I can in their entrepreneur journey.

Getting to where I am now has not been an easy thing for me nor is it easy now, I’ve had the opportunity to interview the best of the best from Letoya Luckett, Kim Burell to the teacher on the West side of Gary! I’ve had to take the lowest jobs to the highest just to gain experience, I’ve had to change in the bathrooms coming from my 9-5 because I wanted to interview Diggy or drive hours away to interview someone all to not be able to because it was 10 other interview outlets there and because we are not the popular choice that we didn’t get to interview. I’ve took on free work more than I can talk about just because I wanted to get more valuable experience! It’s been so many things that I’ve had to encounter on this road, working two jobs in the journalism industry just to make it to not working at all and trying to figure out what the heck I am going to do where am I supposed to be in the industry, do I fit? Do I belong here, or should I try something different? So many emotions come with this and honestly how I have overcome the challenges is that I had to keep going and be consistent even in the hardest times. It wasn’t easy because when things are not going right for you it’s so hard to be consistent and it’s hard to keep going but I believe it works! It’s definitely been a journey!

I want the world to know that my brand is nationwide and that everyone all over the world is looking at their story through my platform and I believe that it’s amazing to be able to say that. I create opportunities for entrepreneurs to elevate their network and net worth. To be able to assist entrepreneurs in that next phase in their entrepreneurial journey is a great reward!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh, my goodness! I am so boring! lol. I would definitely take them to Chicago, we would have one rest day from travel, but I take them downtown Chicago to visit The Bean in Millennium Park and Navy Park and visit a new restaurant of my friend’s choice, but I’ll definitely have to get them some Giordano’s pizza when they first get off the plane!

We would visit The House of Blues on one day and definitely get them some Garrett’s Popcorn

On one of those days, we will stay in Gary and visit my favorite cafe shop called Brown Skinned Cafe.

We will go back downtown to go see one of the musicals and fine dine at one

The Summer Fest, The Hyde Park Summer Fest will be next on the scene

I will have a barbecue at my house so that we can have some family time.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Of course, I had a baby a year ago and so if I had to give a shout out to anyone it would be to my baby, Koren! Koren came at the right time and at the moment where I needed a little more joy even though he was not planned, he was what I needed. He gave me the push that I needed to live again. I always wanted a boy so to find out that God gave me what I asked for and that’s pretty amazing to me! So thank you Koren for being everything that I needed to be who God has called me to be.
