We had the good fortune of connecting with Kaytlyn Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kaytlyn, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I basically stumbled into the idea of running my own business, which to me feels like it was meant to happen. There wasn’t one specific day where I said, “I’m going to start a business!” I started making soap primarily for just myself, but then family and friends expressed interest in purchasing it, I decided to try it out and realized I really enjoyed operating a small business and using my knowledge and skills to not only help support myself, but also help to bring quality products to other people.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I love the fact that my products are truly made from scratch. I make soap the old-timey way, starting with raw ingredients but I put a modern spin on it by ensuring my base ingredients are organic and also not using artificial colors or fragrance oils. My soap recipe is one that I developed myself and I’m proud of that. I think a business of products for people with sensitivities is so important, and I’m happy to be able to provide that service.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In my city of Goldsboro, NC, my favorite hangout spot is definitely Well Travelled Beer, for drinks and a comfortable environment. We would probably eat at Brisas Latin restaurant or the Laughing Owl. We have a state park (Cliffs of the Neuse) if we wanted to get outside or go canoeing.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’ve had so many people support me from the very beginning! Some of the folks who were involved in my business in the very early stages aren’t even in my life anymore, but they had a huge impact. My family, friends, coworkers, etc have all been known to purchase my products or share my information with others. Without word-of-mouth messaging, my business wouldn’t be here today!
