Meet Katie Rothweiler | Studio Owner and Teacher

We had the good fortune of connecting with Katie Rothweiler and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Katie, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I believe that risk is an imperative part of growth in our lives. I think through my existence thus far and can’t imagine the stagnation that I would feel if I hadn’t taken the risks that I have. A little over 13 years ago, I left my hometown of Phoenix, AZ. I had no real plan and only the possessions that I could fit in my ’97 Jetta. After a road trip and lots of soul searching, I ended up in Charlotte a few months later. This was one of the biggest risks in my life, and although there were some really scary, sad and painful moments on the journey, the good definitely outweighed the bad. Not only that, but I grew so much for those hardships.
Starting our business was another one of the largest risks that I’ve ever taken. There were so many reasons that could have swayed us from taking this path, but Sarah (my business partner) and I made a decision and stuck to it. Were there moments of questioning our decision? Most definitely. Starting a business is kind of a daily risk. There are so many choices to make, and you never know exactly where those choices will lead. We learn everyday, and I think that’s the most important thing for me. Continuing to move forward, even through mistakes.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Most definitely my business partner, Sarah. There’s no way we would be where we are without her. She’s an inspiration always.
