We had the good fortune of connecting with Julie Stevens and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Julie, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The secret sauce behind The Biz Spa’s success is simple—our team. We’re a group of amazing women who have found a way to balance the chaos of life with the satisfaction of building something meaningful. Here, we embrace the juggle, whether it’s making kid’s lunches during a team meeting, squeezing in a doctor’s appointment, or finding time to crush a deadline after bedtime stories.

We work when it works. Some of us are early risers, others are night owls, but we all show up for each other and for our clients. This flexibility isn’t just about convenience; it’s about creating a space where everyone feels empowered to do their best work.

The pride these women take in what they do, their dedication to our goals, and the genuine love they have for our clients are the driving forces behind everything we’ve achieved. They’re the heart of this company, and their passion is the reason we’re able to deliver such thoughtful, creative work.

What should our readers know about your business?
The Biz Spa is a full-service marketing agency dedicated to taking the stress of marketing off our clients’ plates. We specialize in everything from branding, logos, and graphic design to websites, SEO, and social media management. What sets us apart is our personal approach…at The Biz Spa, we’re not just marketers; we’re partners. We believe in forming real relationships with our clients. We love face-to-face meetings, phone calls, and genuinely getting to know the people behind the businesses we serve. The better we know you, the better we can tell your story.

In an age where marketing is increasingly automated, we strive to be the team you can call. It’s not just about delivering creative campaigns; it’s about building trust and crafting thoughtful, tailored strategies that align with your goals. That personal touch is our secret ingredient.

What I’m most proud of, and what excites me the most, is the incredible team I’ve built. Hiring my first team member was one of the scariest things I’ve ever done. It’s hard to let someone else take the wheel of something you’ve poured your heart into. But over the years, I’ve been lucky enough to find amazing people who share my vision and passion. Without them, The Biz Spa wouldn’t have grown the way it has.

The journey hasn’t been easy. For most of The Biz Spa’s existence, I was building this company while working full time as a technology specialist for the NC school system. That meant leaning on my team for 9 hours every day while I worked my day job, then spending evenings, weekends, and every spare moment on the business. In the last two years, as I prepared for early retirement, I was essentially working two full-time jobs. It was exhausting—on me, my family, and even the business, but I knew it was what I had to do to transition into The Biz Spa full-time.

Now that I’m here, I couldn’t be happier, but I’ve learned some important lessons along the way. One of the biggest is the importance of self-care. After leaving my full-time job, I realized I had been running on fumes for so long that I had forgotten how to relax and find joy outside of work. It took some time to reconnect with what made me happy and to prioritize taking care of myself. Looking back, I’m glad I pushed through those tough years, but I know now how important it is to set boundaries and make space for yourself.

At its core, The Biz Spa is a family, dedicated, creative, and genuinely passionate about what we do. We don’t just want to market your business; we want to understand it, champion it, and help it grow; easily, thoughtfully and beautifully. We like to say, “If your biz is feeling blah, bring it to the spa”

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend came to visit, we’d kick things off with some outdoor fun right in my backyard! We live near Morrow Mountain in the beautiful Uwharrie Mountains, so we’d spend a day hiking the trails and soaking in the views. Then, we’d head over to Lake Tillery for a relaxing boat ride—it’s such a peaceful way to enjoy the water and take in the scenery.

Since I’m a foodie, there would be plenty of amazing meals involved! Breakfast would absolutely be at Eddie’s Place in Charlotte—their breakfast is legendary and the perfect way to start the day. Afterward, we’d swing by Reedy Creek Park for a round of disc golf—it’s a fun way to get outside and enjoy the fresh air. For dinner, we’d dress up and treat ourselves to some incredible Italian food at Little Mama’s, my favorite spot for a nice night out.

If we’re so lucky, after a nice meal, we’d find where my husband’s band, The Deep Shallow Band is playing and dance the night away!

If there’s time for a little road trip, we’d definitely make a day of heading up to Asheville. Between the breweries, the food, and the mountain views, it’s a must-see. While we’re there, we’d take a tour of Marshall, a nearby town that was devastated by Hurricane Helene. It’s a place close to my heart since we’re beginning some marketing efforts to help some of the local businesses get back on their feet.

And if we had a few extra days? We’d venture down to Beaufort, SC, and explore the beautiful coastline. The area is full of charm, great food, and gorgeous views—perfect for wrapping up a week of adventure.

One of the best parts of living just outside Charlotte is being surrounded by so many incredible destinations. Whether it’s mountains, lakes, or the big-city buzz of Charlotte, there’s always something exciting to experience!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have to give a huge shoutout to my husband. He’s been my biggest supporter from the very beginning. In fact, he was the one who convinced me to start The Biz Spa several years ago and helped me land my very first projects. Over the years, he’s continued to be my go-to for advice when it comes to navigating the challenges of business ownership.

What makes it even more special is that he’s been in my shoes. As the owner of his own company, Advanced Tech, for 22+ years, he’s experienced just about everything there is to experience in running a business. Being able to lean on his wisdom, learn from his lessons, and have him as a sounding board when I’m working through something has been invaluable.

He’s not just my partner in life; he’s been a partner in this dream too, and I’m so grateful for his encouragement, guidance, and unwavering support.
