Meet Joy Lara | Professional Organizer, Interior Decorator & Licensed Realtor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Joy Lara and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joy, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
Each and every one of us has an environment that we impact or that impacts us. We spend about 80% of our time either at home or in our office/workplace. Our homes and offices contribute heavily to the way we feel, think about ourselves, and act in high-stress situations. When a person takes time to nurture their environment at home or work, it can tremendously impact them in a positive way. Studies have shown that having an organized and aesthetically stimulating environment actually increases productivity and reduces confusion and mental/emotional chaos. My services are centered around creating an environment that nurtures YOU as an individual and allows you to feel like the infinite being you really are. I’m sure you’ve heard the saying “you have to fill your own cup first before you can fill anyone else’s”. Well, I like to think of my business as an opportunity to guide my clients in filling their own cup; by taking care of their space first, they create an environment that satisfies them, works well with their needs and lifestyle, and adds joy to their everyday routine. We all need each other, and when you take the time to create an environment of love, peace, and joy, you now have the ability to serve others from your highest self. By taking care of yourself, you’re taking care of others. I help my clients take care of themselves in this way so that they can continue to serve from an overflowing cup.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
In my perspective, the way I do business is an art. When working with my clients, it’s important that we discuss the intention of creating a new space. Making any life change can be scary, overwhelming, and even confusing. I take time to inform my clients of possibilities that come from nurturing their space. Every time I help a client, it’s with the intention of creating a space that is judgment-free, open to receiving, and can yield abundance back to them. Each of my projects turns out uniquely because they are a reflection of my clients as the unique and beautiful individuals they are.
I feel that getting to where I am today has truly been a result of showing up authentically for myself and my clients. There have been challenges along the way, and I’m sure there will be more to come as well. Navigating those challenges is often an internal work of art, making changes in my subconscious beliefs that allow me to say yes to the abundance of resources available to me so that I can provide an enjoyable experience for the client. One of the best lessons I’ve learned so far is that effective communication with others can go such a long way. Asking the right questions, responding with solutions, and not just problems reminds the client that I am really on their side and here to support them through their time of change. It is most important to me that my business is interpreted as more than creating a pretty space; it’s about who you become once you create for yourself a new environment with love.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh yay! Well, on Monday we would definitely enjoy a chill and relaxing evening maybe head to Bailey Park in downtown Winston Salem to enjoy the city view and grab some good food at Cugino Fornos.
Tuesday, we should head to Pilot Mountain for a nice hike if the weather is beautiful. Have a nice picnic lunch on the mountain and return home to rest.
Wednesday would be a great opportunity to enjoy coffee at Krankies, Ardmore Coffee, ByGood Coffee or Camino Bakery and go thrifting! Some of the best thrift spots are in downtown Winston Salem and on the western side of the city at TROSA thrift.
Thursday would be a great opportunity to check out “The Go To Winston Salem” Facebook page and see what fun and exciting events are going on around the city.
Friday would be a great opportunity to check out some of the cute hipster bars in Winston such as the Easy Tiger, Dram & Draught or Radar Brewery as we take a walk through the city and admire all of the local art and murals created by local artists.
Saturday would be the perfect day to explore S Elm St in Greensboro, enjoy live music and walk through a street of diversity and shopping, eating and photo op locations.
Sunday would be a great day to have brunch at either Breakfast Time, Dames Chicken and Waffles or even Mozelles!
I love exploring almost as much as I love taking time to rest. I’ve been doing my best to create harmony between the two and I would intend to do so even when being my friends tour guide!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
To my mother, Yamile McBride. Thank you for always encouraging me to think big and dream on. To Marie Kondo, thank you for being an inspiration in your unique and impactful way of doing business.
