We had the good fortune of connecting with Josef Brandenburg and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Josef, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Strong women lift each other up. Women are (generally) better listeners and clients, so we thought we could make a greater positive difference by focusing on serving women.

Additionally we wanted to push back against the de-conditioning and “frailty mindset” in our society. Our environment rarely requires effort from our bodies anymore, and the resulting decline in fitness is a drag on health, longevity, joy and quality of life. The way our environment is structured today (labor saving and time wasting devices everywhere + unlimited food) requires extra effort to have a high quality of life.

The reality is that our bodies are anti-fragile – the human body requires and benefits from stress. Our bones and muscles are harmed when deprived of stress and demand, and they flourish when challenged. The best way for our clients to internalize this truth is the process of getting stronger – of doing things today that they didn’t think they could, and finding that they can do even more tomorrow.

What should our readers know about your business?
We primarily work with women over 40 in the south Charlotte area. We are the only women’s only personal training studio in Ballantyne. We offer full body strength training sessions no matter your age or fitness level, we will meet you where you are starting. Our coaches, https://true180personaltraining.com/about/, both have over 25 years of experience and expertise which is hard to find in the fitness and wellness space.

Since becoming a coach in 1998, starting my first personal training business in 2002, and our current studio in 2016, https://true180personaltraining.com/personal-training/, I’ve gotten a full education in business. It has not been easy and in fact some years were scary. There are always ups and downs in entrepreneurship, and learning how to handle each thing that comes to you is how you succeed. That with lots of hard work, some luck, and great people!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
As a dad of 2 girls most of our free time is spent together as a family. Some of our favorite things to do are to go running through the Ballantyne area, seeing a movie at RedStone Theatre, and enjoying some amazing Indian food at Aroma Indian Grill & Bar. And to satisfy a sweet tooth, I’d take my friend to Sugar Donuts.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to dedicate this Shoutout to my wife, best friend, and business partner. Without her helping me out in the beginning who knows what would have happened. She helped me become organized in a way I didn’t know I needed. Together we have built the brand and business. She runs the day to day operations of True 180 Personal Training for Women.

I’d also like to give a huge Shoutout to our head coach, Gregory Clifton. He’s been with us since we opened our doors in Charlotte, NC. It’s hard to express how much we appreciate him and his vital role in our company.
