We had the good fortune of connecting with Jill Crudup and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jill, why did you pursue a creative career?
Choosing a career in the artistic and creative field has been a rewarding decision for me. I have a passion for hair as well as people. From a young age, I’ve always been drawn to artistic expression and creativity. Working with hair allows me to channel this passion into tangible forms of art. Hair is a form of self-expression and each client’s hair is a blank canvas which allows me the opportunity to create unique masterpieces that reflect my clients personality and style. Hair styling isn’t work for me, I believe it’s my calling and I have the opportunity to pursue my passion daily.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a Natural Hair Specialist. My distinctive craft and the genuine connections I foster with my clients set me apart from others in the industry. Whether it’s boosting someone’s confidence with a hairstyle or helping them feel beautiful on their special day, the ability to uplift and empower others through my work is incredibly rewarding.

When I started in the industry over 15 years ago, I would receive criticism about my ability to do hair. The harsh words about my work were challenging and sometimes disheartening. Instead of allowing it to deter me, I chose to embrace it as an opportunity to grow and improve. Those times were valuable lessons for me and it motivated me to become the stylist I am today. Interestingly, some of the people who offered the most constructive criticism early on have become my most faithful clients. Their willingness to provide feedback and their commitment to seeing me succeed have built a sense of trust and mutual respect in our relationship.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting we would start our week-long trip by catching up and doing some retail therapy to prepare; shopping for new outfits, paired with the right shoes, smell goods, and accessories. Each morning we would lay out in the sun while having brunch and mimosas. We would find evening events such as boat rides, wineries, bourbon tasting, dinners, and festivals. I love taking pictures, so, I would look for the best selfie museum or scenic views. At night we would enjoy venues with live music, dancing, and the best cocktails.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
As I reflect on my journey in owning and running Glorious Crown Salons, I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the unwavering support and partnership of my husband, Patrick. His belief in me and our shared vision has been the foundation of our success. I am extremely grateful for his dedication and commitment to me along with our business. His emotional support and encouragement has been invaluable. I am blessed to have Patrick by my side.

A huge shout out goes to my team for the contributions they make to our salon every single day. Their dedication, passion and commitment to excellence has been the driving force behind our success. I am grateful for their adaptability and resilience especially during challenging times. Their willingness to embrace change, learn new techniques, and overcome obstacles with grace and determination is a testament to their strength and professionalism. I am so grateful to be a part of such an incredible team.
