Meet Jessica Woodall | Owner and Operator of Jessica Woodall Photography

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Woodall and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jessica, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
Honestly, I don’t think others are aware of how much time it takes to run a photography business. It is more than just taking pictures with a nice camera. It requires an artistic eye, entrepreneurship and hustle. But I can honestly say that the rewards are well worth the effort.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
JWP is more than a photography service, it’s a boutique experience. From the first point of contact to the hanging of the prints on your wall, I hope you feel less like a client and more like a familiar friend. 2015 was a year that changed my life forever. My best friend, grandmother and cornerstone of our family was diagnosed with brain cancer. I remember sitting by her bed singing and playing guitar as her toes danced in rhythm. She is no longer with us but there is a photograph. It’s an image I took of my grandmother from behind my guitar. She was my cheerleader and biggest fan. The picture is blurry but to me, it’s priceless. You don’t realize how important a photograph is until it’s the only thing you have left.
Running your own business can be challenging, and there are times when you may feel vulnerable. However, pursuing something you are passionate about makes the journey worthwhile despite its difficulties.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would start off with Black and White Coffee for the best coffee and pastries then head over to White Street Market to create and pour our own candle. After that, we would have lunch at Over The Falls then bowl at Strike and Barrel. The best part is we would park one time and hit up all of these locations on foot in downtown Wake Forest.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d love to throw some flowers in the direction of my family (blood and chosen family). Without them cheering me on and giving me a reason to keep pushing I would not be where I am today. The love, mentorship, support and encouragement from everyone have been overwhelming.
