We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Goldstein and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
We can begin with some of the more often spoken of habits such as perseverance, organization, and hard work. You have to already have or gain a certain level of dedication to your craft in order to progress & become successful. Those habits I think really formed a good foundation in helping me create & maintain a vision of consistently elevating & evolving in what I do! Another habit I’ve instilled in myself that contributes to success is self love and allowing yourself to take a moment to celebrate all wins & hardships, big or small, it’s important to acknowledge them and understand it’s part of the process.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Tattooing is very multifaceted, it involves good work ethic, the art, technical skill, customer service, adaptability, etc. Over time, I’ve learned to also find a more spiritual side to it in seeing the balance or harmony that’s accomplished by being able to execute a piece of art on someone’s body that they love and speaks to them. I tattoo a variety of different subject matter in black & grey realism or neo traditional. One day is Animal & Pepe from The Muppets and the next day it’s a memorial piece for a mother’s son who passed away. I take pride in ensuring a foundation of trust & making sure the client has confidence in my process & the tattoo I give them. Working with the public, especially on such an intimate level and for long periods at a time can be challenging. It’s extremely important to create a safe environment where both parties feel comfortable, respected, & can communicate. Sometimes, just like in all relationships, you may not be a good fit for each other – and there’s nothing wrong with that! It’s important to have a client/artist relationship that gels well together. It’s important to want to continue evolving & keep challenging yourself. I want to continue to grow & progress in all facets as a human and artist as best I can, and along the way I hope to have a positive impact & inspire others!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Love this! So I’m still very new to Charlotte and am still honing down some of my go-to places – which I’m always open to recommendations! Regarding food and drink places, Le Shish Kabob is a must for really delicious Palestinian food (you can taste the love in it), Culinary Dropout, Bang Bang Burger, Vinyl, Merchant & Trade, and Charlotte Beer Garden. For activities, Discovery Place Science & the Mint Museum in Uptown are definitely fun if you’re into museums and art! There’s a couple outdoor skating rinks the city has during the fall/winter months, bar crawls, sports events, museums, Carowinds, as well as trails if you’re into nature activities. Charlotte has a nice hub of different people, foods, cultures, & activities which I think makes it easy to find something to get into!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have to dedicate my shoutout to a few groups of people. Firstly, the people at Mind Crusher Tattoo who allowed me the honor of an apprenticeship and saw potential in me. Next to give thanks to is my clients. The amount of support, love, and trust I receive from them is humbling and makes me feel incredibly grateful. Lastly, my friends & family are truly my backbone in support. Having their encouragement, them constantly spreading the word about me & my work, and them really believing in me allows me to feel next level lucky. Having good people in your corner is key!
