We had the good fortune of connecting with Jenese Adams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jenese, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Since my early years, I have cultivated a deep passion for creation, and I have found that I thrive in leadership roles, enjoying the independence of building and directing my own team. Cooking has always been a sanctuary for me, and after many years of practical experience as a chef, kitchen manager, or hospitality director, I decided it was time to develop products that could be used daily to promote joy, good health, and self-care.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Chef Jen: A Journey of Faith, Heritage, and Innovation

Jenese Adams ‘Chef Jen’, a proud Vincentian-American woman and dedicated culinary artist, has indeed followed a remarkable path from traditional kitchens to the global stage. Her journey commenced with a genuine passion for authentic Caribbean flavors, cultivated through years of hands-on experimentation and deep cultural roots. Seeing a distinctive market opening, she created Jenesis, the world’s first dried version of the traditional Caribbean green seasoning , the hero product to her line of premium Seasonings.

Her journey to bring her product into mainstream awareness was filled with challenges, from reaching out to over 28 spice manufacturers to overcoming skepticism from larger companies due to her size and background. Her faith and perseverance played vital roles; her application to Walmart’s open call in 2023 was driven by prayer, boldness, and unwavering belief. Out of thousands of applicants, she was selected to pitch her product on the national stage in Arkansas, a moment she describes as divine—proof that faith, obedience, and diligent work open doors for those who dare to dream.

The brand’s core values emphasize faith and family, which are thoughtfully incorporated into the product names, such as the “Jenesis” seasoning, named after her daughter, the “Koko Creole” for her son Khori, the “Resi blendz” for her son Jarese, the “Kookie Love” for her husband Kirk, and the “Vincy Spice” blend dedicated her homeland. This creates a legacy that celebrates love, resilience, and cultural pride. These delicious blends also serve as a connection between her heritage and a global audience.

Looking ahead, Chef Jen envisions expanding her product line with new flavors, wet blends, marinades, and dressings, aiming to share Caribbean culture worldwide. Her story is one of determination, hope, and authenticity—an inspiring reminder that with faith, perseverance, and passion, it’s possible to turn cultural roots into a global movement.

Through her journey, Chef Jen continues to inspire chefs and entrepreneurs worldwide, proving that true flavor, legacy, and purpose have no borders.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite spot in the city right now is the Ballantyne Bowl and surroundings. I love the outdoor things to do in the area from the cooperate parks to the restaurants, bars , picnic area and ample theater

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to my husband, Kirk, and our children for their unwavering support and for providing a sense of stability during challenging times.
I am also deeply appreciative of my high school food and nutrition teacher, Yvette Spencer, for recognizing and nurturing my talents from the beginning, and for her dedication in facilitating my culinary school aspirations.
Additionally, I extend my thanks to Sister Patricia Ann Douglas, my high school principal, for her guidance, second chances, and support in enabling my continued education.
