We had the good fortune of connecting with Jen Barnard and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Joint Venture Jewelry is your premier family jewelry destination in Cary, NC, focusing on exquisite estate and vintage pieces all on consignment. Unlike traditional shops, our entire collection in store is on consignment, thus bringing the most unique collection from every era at unbeatable prices.

In addition, we forego jewelry showcases; instead, a curated, personalized collection is unveiled one-on-one from our secure vault. This allows our customers to experience a fresh approach to jewelry shopping! In the comforts of our cozy store while seated at a conference table, rather than hovering over display cases in a stuffy environment.

Our approach has evolved over the years since we opened our doors in 1998. We got here by constantly evolving, listening to our customers’ wants, seeing the needs in the market and changing to meet those expectations. Owning a family business, or rather any business is never easy. Challenges are constant and staying in business is all about how well you listen and respond to the fast-paced luxury market.

We are proud to be a concierge jeweler, offering a highly personalized service to our clients. It can be challenging to find exactly what you are looking for, especially if it’s a vintage heirloom or a designer estate piece. Over the years, we’ve developed an extensive network allowing us to source jewelry not easily found while browsing online or traveling around from jewelry shop to shop.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Raleigh/Cary is the best place with so many exciting places! Here’s some of my favorites: 1. Breweries: we love drinking local, especially with so many amazing brewers in the area. Favorites include Funguys Brewing, Lynnwood Brewing Concern, Burial at Transfer Food Hall. Even better if you can coordinate your trip during Brewgaloo!
2. Greenways! We have such great greenways and walking trails. My favorite is going to NCMA to walk around and see the art weaved into the pathways
3. This is a foodie town with so many tastes: Brewery Bhavana is always my go-to rec for out-of-towners. Also love Sitti, Oakwood Pizza Box and Maximillions in Cary.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Joint Venture Jewelry was established by my parents, Lee and Donna. I would not be, as well as our company would not be, where it is today without their love, support, and dedication to our business and clients. Family is everything for us. Donna is the glue that holds it all together. And in turn, Donna would credit her success to the support of her late parents, (they passed away a few years ago) And as a new mom myself, I only hope to be the rock and support for my daughter!
