We had the good fortune of connecting with Jason & Kate Douek and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jason & Kate, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Our Clients, hands down. We would not be where we are in our business success without the love and support of our clients. especially those that use us frequently. We gain most of our new cliental from the referrals of our return clients, We love building relationships with our clients and being able to tell their stories year after year.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
We provide authentic photos that tell stories of our clients lives and love. We shoot in Bold colors and also deep black and white. We have been published internationally over 100 times, got to work with Supermodel Coco Rocha and had our work displayed in several galleries throughout the years.

We worked very hard to get where we are today. We started our business in 2014 under the name GingerKat Photography. It was a side hustle for 6 years when we lived in Indiana. We rebranded in 2020 to Jason & Kate Photography, LLC and moved to Wilmington, NC, within 6 months of our move we were able to make our side hustle into our full time business and we have been working successfully ever since. It wasn’t easy to start but the success was worth the wait. We never gave up just continued to work on our brand.

Lessons we have learned are never compare your success to other businesses in your market. Believe in your brand, and continue to work hard to make it work. Build strong relationships with your clients, they are what make or break your success.

We love telling stories through our lenses. We we love our clients and we want to be able to tell their stories one photo at a time.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Wilmington is such a fun place to explore. Our favorite beach is Fort Fisher, from the twisted trees, rocky beach side to the regular beach and intercoastal, and bonus free parking. Grab a beer at Flying Machine, or Front Street Brewery. Love Brunch? Head to Brunches, Famous Toastery, or First Watch. Love Coffee? Head to 3 Friends, or the Maroon Monkey, Walk around the RiverWalk or do a One Tree Hill Tour.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We would love to give a huge Shoutout to Robert’s Camera & Used Photo Pro in Indianapolis, IN. We wouldn’t be as successful without the knowledge Kate learned by working there, learning about gear and taking classes to improve or work, plus all the gear we have been able to attain new and used from them.
