Meet Jasmine Johnson | Founder & Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasmine Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jasmine, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The concept of a rage room is often associated with providing a physical outlet for stress and frustration, allowing people to release pent-up emotions in a controlled environment. It can serve as a unique and unconventional way for individuals to manage stress. Mental health is real and I wanted to find another way to express that. I am born and raised in the Knightdale area and I want something different to bring to the area for a variety of ages. I wanted something that I could call mine own and bring light to my community.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am the owner of the first standalone rage room in Wendell, NC, located at 2604 NC 97. A rage room, also referred to as an anger room or smash room, is a facility designed for individuals to release frustration, stress, or anger by breaking and smashing objects in a controlled setting. These rooms are equipped with various breakable items like glassware, furniture, and electronic devices, and participants can use tools such as baseball bats, sledgehammers, or crowbars. The idea behind rage rooms is to provide a cathartic release for pent-up emotions and stress through physical destruction.
Participants typically wear protective gear, such as helmets and coveralls, to ensure their safety during the activity. Rage rooms have gained popularity for stress relief, entertainment, team-building exercises, parties, and therapeutic purposes. It’s important to note that while rage rooms offer a temporary emotional release, they are not a substitute for professional mental health care for individuals dealing with ongoing anger or stress issues.
Establishing the rage room business hasn’t been an easy journey, especially as an African American woman with limited resources. Every day has been a learning experience, overcoming doubts and gaining support from those who may not fully grasp the concept. I’ve learned to persist, never stop learning, and advocate for oneself. Receiving setbacks doesn’t mark the end; asking questions, avoiding negativity, and maintaining passion for the endeavor are crucial.
My brand emphasizes authenticity and love, even when faced with challenges. I want people to understand that they can achieve their goals, often finding support from unexpected sources, evolving strangers into friends. Putting forth the best effort, being a leader, and persevering through failures are essential in entrepreneurship. Running this business holds special significance for me as a mother, inspiring my daughter to believe she can accomplish anything by putting her mind to it, just as my own mother did for me.
