We had the good fortune of connecting with Gemini Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gemini, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
It came more from my heart than my head. It has been a true desire of mine to create a space for people to feel better through the awareness of the impact of mental health on one’s whole body health and well-being. I have been a psychotherapist for over 15 years and, within that time I have been witness to the importance of acknowledging the whole being when working with someone. I once heard that you can’t have health without mental health and I truly felt that. I desire to create a space that integrates physical, emotional., and mental well-being to provide a holistic approach to health. This space serves as a platform for education, support, and empowerment for individuals seeking to improve their overall health.

Ultimately, my goal is to create a safe and inclusive space that breaks down the barriers surrounding mental health and fosters a sense of empowerment and hope. By emphasizing the interconnectedness of mental and physical health, I hope to inspire individuals to prioritize their well-being and take proactive steps toward living a healthier and more fulfilling life.

I am truly passionate about my mission and am committed to making it a reality. I believe that by providing accessible and comprehensive resources, we can make a positive impact on the lives of many individuals and contribute to a healthier society as a whole.

What should our readers know about your business?
At Haven Mental Wellness, PLLC we aim to strengthen one’s path to vibrant well-being through combining evidence-based practices, collaborations, and a focus on the whole person.
I am a psychotherapist, Certified yoga therapist, Yoga Teacher, and hold a Reiki Master Certification so I offer a comprehensive and integrative approach to mental wellness by integrating evidence-based modalities. As a result, I provide a diverse range of tools and techniques to support their well-being. Psychotherapy can help individuals explore and address underlying emotional and psychological challenges, while yoga therapy and teaching can promote physical strength, flexibility, and mindfulness. Reiki, on the other hand, can provide a holistic energy healing approach that supports relaxation, balance, and overall well-being.

I am most proud of my ability to stay true to myself on my journey. No, it was not easy but most definitely worth it, The path of personal and professional growth is rarely easy. It often involves facing obstacles, making difficult decisions, and stepping outside of your comfort zone. The most important lesson I have learned is to lean into the space that makes me uncomfortable as they become my most valuable teachers.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well, I live in Elizabeth City, North Carolina so I am the perfect 45-minute drive to the Outer Banks to explore the beautiful shores or 45 minutes another way to Virginia Beach. I would take a couple of days each to explore these majestic places vs, stopping at awesome eateries and shops.

Elizabeth City has been named one of the “100 Best Small Towns in America” and is ranked by Money Magazine as “one of best places to live on the East Coast.” So taking some time to explore the downtown area filled with shops, historic homes and buildings and beautiful artwork would be a must as well. My little favorites are Muddy Waters Coffee Shop, Bijoux Vibes, Sagos on the water, and Allcious. Hoppin Johnz and Toyama are some more of my favorites.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
That is a beautiful question and there have been so many wonderful lights along my way. My mother, husband, mentor Alejandra, a host of family, friends, professors, and even my clients along the way. I have been blessed with purposeful people while on my path to opening my business and I have gratitude for each one. One of my favorite, heart space books is The Yamas and the Niyamas: Exploring Yogas Ethical Practice. It has changed the way I look at myself and how I choose to be within the world.
