We had the good fortune of connecting with Garren Washington and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Garren, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success and my company’s success is two-fold. First, I believe in having a growth mindset which means I believe just about anything is possible. If I don’t know how to do something, I find a way to learn. Our skills, talents and knowledge are not set in stone. They are changeable. Business, like life, is hard and how you frame your mindset makes all the difference in the outcomes you want to be a part of.

Second, is how I treat people. Showing compassion, being honest and transparent, likable, generous, forgiving — all tend to make the people around you want to be those things as well. No one can do it all on their own and learning to work with others in a way that uplifts and empowers them is invaluable.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My company is Washington Commercial. It is a holding company dedicated to acquiring and scaling cash-flowing businesses, real estate, and other income-producing assets. My journey began in real estate in 2015, where I gained valuable experience as a real estate agent and built a strong foundation over three transformative years.
Leveraging that experience, I acquired my first business, successfully scaled it, and soon craved the challenge of building something new. After my second acquisition, I knew I’d found my passion. Washington Commercial was born as the vehicle to execute my vision of consistent growth and long-term wealth creation.
My ultimate goal is to acquire at least one income-producing asset every year, indefinitely. I fully embrace the challenge—because, as they say, the greater the difficulty, the sweeter the rewards.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting for a week, I’d make sure they had an amazing time filled with my favorite spots and activities. We’d kick things off on Day 1 with brunch at Another Broken Egg or First Watch—both great places for a hearty breakfast to set the tone. Afterward, we’d take a relaxing walk in the park so they can see why I love spending time outdoors. For dinner, I’d take them to Bonefish Grill or Assiagos for a cozy and delicious meal, followed by drinks at a rooftop bar or lounge where we could unwind and catch up.

Day 2 would be more active. We’d start the morning with a run in the park or some Spartan-style training to get moving. Afterward, we’d grab lunch at Fresko Greek Kitchen, Cava, or Tropical Smoothie Café—all great spots for fresh and energizing meals. In the afternoon, I’d introduce them to rock climbing, either indoors or outdoors, depending on the vibe. Dinner would be at Mums or Fiction Kitchen, both unique dining spots that I really enjoy. To wrap up the day, we’d have a fun game night at home with friends and family.

On Day 3, we’d slow things down with a spa day or maybe some yoga to recharge. Lunch at Spring Rolls or Cava would hit the spot, and in the afternoon, we’d try something new just to shake things up. For dinner, we’d go back to a favorite like Fiction Kitchen or Assiagos for amazing food and a relaxed atmosphere. To end the night, we’d either catch a movie or just hang out and reflect on the trip so far.

Day 4 would focus on local culture. We’d start with breakfast at First Watch and then explore a museum, historical site, or one of my favorite neighborhoods with a great story behind it. Lunch at Fresko Greek Kitchen would give us a chance to refuel. Dinner at Bonefish Grill or Mums would provide the perfect comfort food, and the evening would be capped off with a sporting event or a concert for some excitement.

Day 5 would be adventure-packed. We’d grab breakfast on the go and head out for something active like kayaking or ziplining. Lunch would be a casual picnic in the park or a quick stop at Tropical Smoothie Café to keep things simple. In the afternoon, we’d relax—maybe by the pool or just chilling and catching up. Dinner at Spring Rolls or another favorite spot would round out the day nicely.

By Day 6, I’d let them choose their favorite activity from the trip—whether it’s more Spartan training, rock climbing, or just exploring the area some more. Lunch at Cava or Fresko Greek Kitchen would keep us energized for the day. In the afternoon, we’d try something fun and collaborative, like an escape room or bowling. For dinner, I’d host a big group meal at Mums, Fiction Kitchen, or Bonefish Grill so they could meet more of my friends and family and experience the community I’m proud of.

On Day 7, we’d keep things low-key to wrap up the week. Breakfast at Another Broken Egg would be a great way to start the day, followed by a coffee stop at a favorite café. We’d spend some time reflecting on the week, laughing about the highlights, and soaking in the final moments before saying goodbye.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Without a doubt the most influential book in my life has been “Mindset” by Carol Dweck. This book is written by a psychologist who believes you can fulfill your potential by having and practicing a growth mindset. I lost count on how many times I’ve read it but it’s somewhere around 13 times and I recommend it to anyone who will listen! It will change your life in a positive way.
