Meet Eva Marie Everson | CEO, Word Weavers International & CBA Bestselling Author

We had the good fortune of connecting with Eva Marie Everson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Eva Marie, what matters most to you?
Honesty. Whether it is from me or directed at me, the answer is honesty. If I can trust you . . . and you can trust me . . . then this is a foundation we can always grow on. No matter what happens and in which direction we go, I know you have my back and you know I have yours. I believe this is what Jesus meant, in part, when He said that we are to love our neighbor as ourself.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My writing career began as a writer for a children’s ministry. I honestly didn’t think a whole lot about it. I just enjoyed it. Then, during that time, I took a walk one day and (as it has happened so often in my life) a story began to unfold. When I returned home, I began to write it and I continued to write for a year. Two years later, “Shadow of Dreams” became my first published novel. From there, one publishing door after the other opened and I simply walked through them. Was this easy? Not at all. But . . . one foot in front of the other.
While working with Linda Evans Shepherd on “The Potluck Club” series, I discovered that my “voice” was truly Southern in nature. I called my editor and said, “I’d like to explore writing more along the lines of Southern fiction. After all, I’m from the South. Hers are my people. Her history is my history. Her nuances are my nuances.” My editor agreed. In 2009, my first work of “Southern Fiction” released.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Day 1 we’d take the SunRail to Winter Park, Florida which is not far from where I live. The SunRail train stops directly in front of Park Avenue, which is filled with specialty shops, fabulous restaurants, unique experiences, and a park that stretches for several blocks. This park includes a bandstand, rose gardens, sculptures, paths, etc. We’d begin at one end of the brick-paved avenue and end at the other, then circle back. After many hours of leisure shopping and dining, we’d hop back on the train.
Day 2 we’d hop in my car and drive to Mount Dora, Florida. This is a sleepy bedroom town filled with parks, history, a massive, sparkling lake, shoppes, bookstores, tea rooms, dining and shopping experiences galore! Mount Dora is truly one of the most wonderful places to go.
Day 3 we’d get in my car again and drive over to Daytona Beach. We’d stop at my favorite restaurant (one owned by Jimmy Buffet), eat, then take a long leisurely walk on the beach, photographing the birds, collecting shells. After a while, we’d head back to the restaurant, maybe get something to cool us down, and then back in the car and then home.
Day 4 . . . let’s go to the outlets! There are plenty of them and I’ll let my best friend choose which one(s) she prefers.
Day 5. Time to chill. We’ll take a ride down 434 to a local coffee shop, but, pretty much, we’ll stay indoors and read some good books and talk some good gossip! 🙂
Day 6: We’d head over to Leu Gardens where we’ll enjoy walking amongst nature, gardens, statues, and other observatories.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I never intended to become the CEO of an international group of writers, but here I am. Without them–without them, however, I would have never dreamed of pushing forward in my writing career. Along the way there have been so many people to whom I owe success. Perhaps they’d say the same about me. I believe in the “let’s go into this together” way to doing things. We’re here for each other.
Years ago, the book “Living Prayer” by Robert Benson spoke to me in about a hundred and one different ways. Just recently I read a book by Donald Miller that I underlined to bits! “A Million Miles in a Thousand Years” helped me to understand better my writing as well as my life.
