We had the good fortune of connecting with Eric Thompson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Eric, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Honestly it directed towards seeing a need and trying to fill it. Trying to create place for black and brown writers to connect Demystify the industry.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As I poet and writer I strive to share perspective. I think a lot of opinions and disagreements can be shifted if we all could shift our perspective. That’s what I try to do with my writing, I try to bring us all together by shifting our perspectives.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
So there are a lot of beautiful spots to check out. The Arcane bar is nice little hidden gem for so very unique drinks and intimate atmosphere. The Hayti Heritage center is a beautiful place to go catch amazing shows. Everything from poetry slams to jazz festivities. Local 22 is a farm to table places that doesn’t miss at all. For the late night burger cravings its always a go for Queeny’s. They also have a birria’s dip sandwich that is amazing.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many! My English professor Dr Anjil Amhad, Dasan Ahanu, Ashley Lumpkin, Brandon Evans and Khalisa Rae. My Mother and Grandfather for teaching the beauty of story telling. The southern fried poetry community for giving me the space to grow my soul. The world for never running out of lessons to teach me,
