Meet Eric Dixon | Artist & Creative Director

We had the good fortune of connecting with Eric Dixon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Eric, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I pursued an artistic career because it’s the only thing I’ve been good at. I’ve tried multiple things in my life so far but art is my gift. I wake up thinking about it and go to sleep thinking about it. During my creative process I feel alive and I love it.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets my art apart from others is my style. I created my own unique style that have bold lines and usually bold colors. I merged different styles of art into a cohesive style. I’m most proud of constantly creating art. I’ve been drawing since I was 6 and now I’m 42. I always look back to see my progress over the years. I have made it this far professionally due to hard work and networking. When I showed up for my first art gallery in 2012 every thing has been rolling since. I’ve been lucky enough to work with a lot of friends. My friends have put me onto a lot opportunities. Networking is the most important part of any artist career. Was it easy? By no means. There are ups and downs like any other thing in life. There are many times I thought about quitting. I’ve overcome challenges by listening to friends, family and continuing to work. I always remember I am doing art because I love it. I’ve learned to enjoy the moments, learned to be more efficient and how to network. What I want people to know about my story? I am a self taught artist and I am passionate about my craft.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take my friend downtown to check out a concert at Red Hat. It is something about experiencing a concert there. I would take them to Munjo Munjo for some awesome clothes. I would also stop by Mojo’s, Five star, Franks Pizza, Flying Biscuit, Krispy Kreme and Cali Burger. I would hang out at Box Car, CAM and Wilco bar. In my view where ever Micky Slicks and D3 are spinning is the place to go. I can’t forget to go see spclsigns painting signs around the city.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Yes! I would love to shoutout a few people and groups. Shem and Jeff Magner. They gave me my first opportunity to show in a gallery. Ivey Hayes for the best conversation I’ve ever had and the encouragement to start an art career. My friends and family for encouraging me over my life. My crew the Faculty and Oak City Hustle fam. they’ve help with a ton of opportunities over the years. My friend Jay gave me a book ‘Letters to a young brother’ by Hill Harper that changed my mindset and decision to pursue professional art.
