Meet Emily Warner & Ian Counts | Owners & Stylists @ Established Hair Studio

We had the good fortune of connecting with Emily Warner & Ian Counts and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Emily Warner & Ian Counts, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Starting Established Hair Studio wasn’t about just creating a place to do hair, it was about creating an environment where everyone felt welcomed. We have the best of both worlds in our shop, the precision and tradition of a barbershop and the creativity and relaxation of a traditional salon. It was important that we built a space for education and community as well. We figured if you’re gonna take the risk of starting your own business, you might as well love it…right?
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets Established Hair Studio apart is our commitment to creativity, precision, and inclusivity, all in a laid-back, welcoming atmosphere. As owners, we keep things relaxed and approachable, ensuring that the studio feels like a place where everyone can truly be themselves. Our diverse team of barbers and stylists brings a wide range of skills, so whether you’re looking for a fresh fade, a bold color, or a completely new look, we’ve got you covered. We really take the time to listen to each client, customizing every service to their personal style. Above all, we want our space to feel like a community where everyone—regardless of gender, background, or style—can come in, relax, and leave feeling their absolute best.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Charlotte realllllly has it all. Upon arriving we’d have to check out Central Coffee in Plaza Midwood for a coffee & maybe a slice of their homemade quiche. We could do a little shopping on central avenue supporting small local shops.
Next we’d make our way over to NODA and hit up a few stores on North Davidson Street, again…supporting local small businesses.
Optimus Hall would be next on our city tour. This food hall has SO many options, from some of the best ramen & dumplings to unbelievable cheeseburgers from Harriet’s. It’s a great way to experience a few of Charlotte best food places.
If there’s a Knights game or Charlotte FC match that would be our next stop. A great way to be IN the city and see some fun sporting events.
Next for dinner, Beef N’ Bottle off South Blvd. Not your typical trendy, modern restaurant that Charlotte has to offer. This place is a blast from the past and one of the BEST steakhouses around. Here we’d definitely grab a classic vodka martini. Yum!
Finally for a night cap, we would circle back to Plaza Midwood to the famous Thirsty Beaver. A PBR & and a pickle back shot are a must!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shout out the Charlotte hair community as a whole. While Charlotte is growing more and more everyday, the Charlotte hair community really seems to be getting closer and closer. Both of us (Ian & Emily) have had the absolute privilege of working with some of Charlottes BEST talent in the hair industry. We are also taking further steps to grow that community and share our space for continuing education and industry meetups.
