We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr Taylor Cox / Colleen Flaherty and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr Taylor Cox / Colleen Flaherty, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Upon moving to this area, Both Dr. Taylor and Colleen knew that community was lacking in the prenatal and postpartum realm. Dr. Taylor was pregnant with her son when she moved and had a hard time finding the providers she needed to get support. Then COVID hit, and that became even more challenging for local mothers. Classes cancelled, co-Horts stopped meeting and motherhood became a lonely place. Thus began Build a birth. This group started in order to bring community together, all while supporting local businesses, most of which are mothers themselves. We wanted to create a networking group that brought together our niche professionals where mothers could find their people easily.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We are different than any other group because we are the specialists for prenatal and postpartum women. There is no other group like us that requires an application to make sure that each and every BAB member is certified and safe for our mothers. We are so beyond excited to continue to grow our network of almost 100 applicants in just over a year. Business and networking during a pandemic is a challenge, but our members have allowed us to jump through flaming hoops with ease. We are constantly trying to make BAB better for our members with updates, and changes to make our meetings better and more knowledgeable. We are currently working on branches opening in multiple cities across NC and other states. Our brand is mothers, and we can’t wait to collaborate with more networking groups to expand the knowledge our members have and make sure that our community of mothers has every ounce of resources she needs for her journey through pregnancy and postpartum.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We are founded in Holly springs, so many of the places we go are near and dear to our city! There are so many local restaurants and parks you can enjoy in this town. The joy of living close to Downtown Raleigh and close to Angier where there are farms and horses to ride is indescribable.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We would love to show appreciation for our members within Build a Birth. These women (and man) have come together and supported our journey like no other. It is simply so amazing to see not only three different branches of women throughout NC coming together, but to see women in other cities jumping on board. We were hopeful that our network would reach across the US, but never did we dream it would so quickly. We are so thankful that our members trust us to build this community, with our education, networking and so much more.
