We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Jennifer Moore and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Jennifer, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My passion for mental health has been a significant driving force in the establishment of the Lennix James Foundation, LLC, and the Lennix James Mental Health Podcast. Stemming from personal experiences and a genuine interest in supporting others, my unwavering dedication to mental health motivates me to raise awareness, challenge stigmas, and advocate for a better understanding and acceptance of mental health challenges. Recognizing the necessity for a supportive community, my passion has led me to create a platform through the podcast where like-minded individuals, experts, and those affected by mental health issues can come together, fostering a sense of belonging and understanding. By sharing personal stories, insights, and experiences, the podcast allows me to advocate, provide coping strategies, and delve into various aspects of mental wellness, inspiring and supporting others. Each episode aims to educate and inform, featuring mental health professionals, individuals with lived experiences, and other experts who discuss topics such as coping strategies, therapy options, and the science behind mental health conditions. Ultimately, my desire for the podcast and business is to make a positive impact. Through advocacy, I strive to initiate meaningful change by encouraging open conversations and assisting others in seeking appropriate support and resources. Guided by a deep sense of empathy and understanding for those grappling with mental health issues, I am committed to creating a safe and non-judgmental space within my podcast, where listeners can feel truly understood and supported.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My commitment to inclusivity and diversity ensures that mental health advocacy is comprehensive and considerate of diverse populations, effectively addressing their specific needs and challenges. This sets my business and podcast apart from others. A significant portion of my podcasts are based on my personal experiences, and people appreciate the authenticity I bring. I take great pride in making mental health resources and support accessible to everyone, regardless of their background or location. This is made possible through platforms such as Spotify, Amazon Music, Apple Podcast, iHeartRadio, and Radio Public.

To begin, I had to carefully define my target audience, determine the topics to cover, and establish the appropriate format. This required meticulous planning and thorough research. Developing engaging, informative, and sensitive content that resonates with the audience and adheres to mental health ethics was crucial. This involved scripting, conducting interviews, and discussing various mental health topics. Additionally, I had to set up the necessary recording equipment and become proficient in editing software and other technical aspects of podcast production, which presented its own set of challenges.

Attracting and retaining listeners is an ongoing endeavor. Building a loyal audience necessitates consistently delivering high-quality content and implementing effective marketing and outreach strategies. Engaging in discussions about mental health involves addressing sensitive and potentially triggering subjects. It is imperative to approach these topics responsibly and ethically, which can be quite demanding.

Producing a podcast requires a significant investment of time, effort, and potential financial resources for equipment, hosting, and marketing. However, I overcame these challenges by maintaining persistence and dedication to producing content of the highest caliber. Despite initial slow growth, I continuously learn and adapt to the evolving landscape of mental health discussions and the needs of my audience. Furthermore, establishing connections with mental health professionals, influencers, and individuals with lived experiences has greatly supported the growth and credibility of my podcast.

The Lennix James Foundation, LLC and Lennix James Mental Health Podcast aim to establish a platform that offers individuals struggling with mental health issues valuable, informative, and supportive content. Our ultimate goal is to spread awareness and make a positive impact in the mental health community through responsible and ethical content creation.
