Meet Devin Masone | Professional Videographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Devin Masone and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Devin, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I started editing video footage in early 2009 as a hobby. I later found out it would jump start my own recruiting process. I spent hours editing my own school footage to help with my basketball recruitment process. As I published my work, my peers asked if I could do the same for them. In 2010 I started my first production company business that was known as M- Squared Productions (Masone Multimedia) at the time. I ended up receiving multiple offers from the Division One level to JUCO levels. My career ended early due to injuries and that is where I really found my passion. Since 2009, with some stops along the way, I have created a platform that allows me to help student athletes achieve their dreams of playing collegially through my video services. I have been fortunate enough to have had my work on some of the biggest sports platforms (ESPN, USAToday, Ballislife & SportsCenter) and worked for some of North Carolina’s premier sports teams. As we step into 2024, my goal is to showcase our talents outside of the sports world including videos for corporate company’s & weddings.
What should our readers know about your business?
I have been filming and creating for over 15 years, but it wasn’t until Covid where I really fell back in love with it and made it my profession. It has definitely has been a ride for sure when it comes to owning your own production/film company. The freelance world themselves can tell you of their struggles. Many work other jobs and create when they are free. Others find their breakthrough and end up making it a career. Ive been in the middle of both, as a single dad, every job counts. Owning your own company and balancing home life can be hard let alone finding gigs to pay the bills. Along the way I’ve learned to let my work speak for itself and that word of mouth honest is the best way to earn business from others. If I can master a project to where they recommend their friends to me then I have done my job right.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The biggest question would be if we were staying in Raleigh,NC or I was able to travel the whole state. Im a big person on enjoying nature and staying active. For me would probably recommend traveling the whole state in one week. I would probably start in the mountains of Asheville and then work our way to the beaches of Wilmington, NC. In the mountains of course we would go on hikes, see the Biltmore estate, and travel the Blue Ridge Parkway. I am a huge foodies so defiantly hit up some of my favorite places which includes: Early Girl Eatery (Breakfast), Moose Cafe (Lunch) and dinner at either Buxton Hall BBQ or The Blackbird. We would then come to Raleigh or got to Charlotte and enjoy some of the “city” life. Im big into enjoying food halls and arcade bars when I am in any city down. From there it would be off to the coast to enjoy the beach and Wilmington,NC. I love fishing so that day would include fishing at the pier and finding some of the best seafood places in town. I enjoy taking the ferry and going to Southport, NC for dinner at the famous Provisions Resturant. You can’t beat the view and service there.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to shoutout my creative team over at Moneydown Football. Without my team our success would not be possible! We have grown into such a big team that I can’t mention everyone but they know exactly who they are! I also would like to thank some of my mentors along the way who have helped me grow as a creator: Webb Wellman, Rich Font, & Kenny Ferguson.
