We had the good fortune of connecting with Devana Turner and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Devana, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
I have transformed the way I speak to myself and envision my future. In the past, I used to discuss my future with doubt, expressing my desires as if uncertain of their realization. However, I made a conscious shift to proclaim that these aspirations will undoubtedly come to fruition. By preparing myself to receive everything that unfolds, I began to witness more positive occurrences in my life than negative ones.

I attribute this positive shift to the principles of the law of attraction, placing my trust in both the law itself and in God. Believing that the things I focus on and give my attention to will be the elements I attract, I’ve learned the importance of maintaining a positive mindset. When I allow negativity to permeate my thoughts or self-talk, I attract more of that negativity. Conversely, when I affirm that my dreams are within reach and speak confidently about my future endeavors, including the people I’ll meet and the success I’ll achieve in my business, I find myself attracting more of those positive outcomes. It’s a powerful realization that has positively shaped the trajectory of my life.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart? I am a midsize fashion, beauty, and lifestyle creator. One distinguishing factor that sets me apart is my embrace of where I am in life. I encourage the women who follow me to love their bodies and emphasize the natural changes our bodies undergo as women. A common phrase I’m known for on social media is sharing that I fluctuate between sizes 10, 12, and 14, depending on the day or time of the month.

I urge my followers not only to follow individuals who inspire them and assist them in working towards their goals but also those who serve as a reminder of their current state, encouraging them to love and appreciate where they are in the present moment.

How did I get to where I am today?
I started off with content creation as a hobby, and then I learned from friends who were taking it more seriously about the financial freedom one can achieve through content creation. To strike a balance, I began working full-time at my tech 9-to-5 job while also dedicating time to creating content. I decided to take it seriously at the beginning of 2023 and remained consistent throughout the entire year. In September 2023, I was laid off from my tech job, and instead of immediately applying for new positions, I allowed myself to focus solely on content creation. Since then, everything has been on the rise.

I’ve had brand partnerships with dream brands that I only imagined working with in my dreams. I’ve stayed for free at hotels, received PR gifts from brands I didn’t even know were aware of my existence, and gained financial freedom while pursuing something I genuinely love. This journey allows me to tap into the most creative aspects of myself.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First things first, for me, I’m a brunch girl, so we’re going to brunch year-round. The first place I’m going to take them is “It’s a Southern Thing.” This spot is one of my favorite brunch places, not only because they offer bottomless mimosas but also because I’ve tried almost everything on their menu, and I love it all. It’s also the place where my fiancé and I had our first date.

As for activities, I always love engaging in fun experiences that make for great memories. One of those activities would be goat yoga on Avery Family Farm. Another exciting option is the “Wreck-It Rage Room,” a fantastic way to release built-up frustration. Goat yoga turned out to be surprisingly therapeutic, something I discovered when I tried it for a birthday celebration.

Lastly, being a huge foodie, I constantly stalk offline Raleigh-Durham’s Instagram page to discover new restaurants in our area. I would definitely take anyone visiting me to some of those restaurants to try something new and savor the diverse culinary offerings in our region.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a huge shoutout to GTA Fitness and Performance, my gym family. This is the gym family that I have grown to truly love and admire. It was the first place where I found myself in a room with numerous Black entrepreneurs and individuals dedicated to their overall mental, physical, and spiritual health. Not only have I discovered a community within them that holds me accountable for my physical goals, but this community is also a wealth and network of knowledge.

When I was undecided about starting my own business, I consulted with some of the members and the gym owner. Many of them expressed confidence in me, a belief that I initially didn’t see in myself. Beyond the support I received from my partner, this space played a pivotal role in helping me gain the confidence needed to be successful and fearless as I embarked on my entrepreneurial journey.
