We had the good fortune of connecting with Derrin Thompson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Derrin, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is music. I’m passionate about it and i love everything about creating it. I strive to create my own sound and give the world something that doesn’t quite exist yet. I’m infatuated with blending genres, creating concepts, and atmospheres around my music. I produce everything from scratch using synthesizers, electric guitar, bass guitar, drum pads, and other cool little things i find at thrift stores.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Since most of my friends are music lovers, i’d take them to hunky dory record shop located in raleigh. Then i’d take them over to the food hall where we can try a vast of different types of food. Then, we’d head over to Ruby Deluxe for a music show. They’re super supportive of artists and they have created an amazing atmosphere for musicians.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Ravish Norfolk Art Collective- for helping artists develop their careers by giving them a platform to perform, network, and grow amongst the community and their peers. The art collective has promoted works of other artists to different businesses and venues on the east coast.
