Meet Denetra Taylor | Screenwriter & Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Denetra Taylor and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Denetra, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I decided to follow my dreams at this stage in life because it’s now or never! COVID taught me some very valuable lessons.
1. Life is too short to live with regret.
2. Don’t sleep on your gifts.
3. If you don’t try you’ll never know the outcome .
I accepted the fact that it’s totally OK to be creative and an “out of the box” citizen.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started writing a script called The Feast in 2020, I had no formal training but I have an active imagination so I wrote this Sci-Fi full feature film but that project had to be put on the back burner. The second script I wrote Ani-Mom my husband and I produced it in 2024 and now it’s streaming on RM Entertainment via Roku, AppleTV, or FireTV.
Writing takes hard work and dedication many times I didn’t go to bed until 4 or 5 in the morning and still had to work a full time job. I knew this was the path I wanted to continue on so I started taking formal screenwriting classes which requires time and focus.
Along the way I’ve learned that it’s possible to achieve your dreams but it’s not going to just fall in your lap. Get up and make something happen.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shout out my mom Dorothinia Taylor, and my beautiful daughter Makaela Taylor thank you for your support and love. To my husband Savalas Everette thank you for being in my corner and being my partner on this journey. To my awesome Directors Mintaka Brower and TJ Harper thank you for rocking with and becoming my family. To my church family at Lighthouse Christian Fellowship Center in Clayton NC I appreciate you.
