Meet Demia Avery | CEO & Podcast Host

We had the good fortune of connecting with Demia Avery and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Demia, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Gratitude. Sometimes we have to stop and remind ourselves just how far we’ve come. Just because we are not where we think that we should be in our careers doesn’t mean we are not where we are supposed to be. Be grateful in it. Learn what we are supposed to learn, soak up everything in that moment… then we can move to the next.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I host the community podcast entitled “Whatchu’Doin Wilmington”. My podcast shows light on the positive people, places, and things in the city of Wilmington, NC.
What sets me apart is the human interest of the people. I’m not only getting into what people do, but I also want to speak with them about every day lives and how they enhance the community. In addition, I also visit restaurants, Boutiques, attend events, and anything that brings light to our community.
The only challenges that I face are not having enough manpower. There is always something to do here in the city and sometimes trying to get it all can be a bit overwhelming. So prioritizing is a must! I had to learn to work and rest.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Living in Wilmington is all about the beach. My best friend is a plant-based eater so we will probably hit the farmers market or Tidal Creek Co-Op farmers market to get whole foods. Later we would have to hit Wrightsville Beach. After laying in the sun for hours, she is a shopper, so we would do a little shopping at Mayfaire Town Center and get a nice salad at Chopt restaurant. Afterwards we would probably go home to rest up and later take a drive through the riverfront but end up at one of the many ocean pier’s pier’s… as she is a water person and enjoys clearing her mind near the ocean.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Girard and Tracey Newkirk for allowing me to use many of their entrepreneurs from their workshops to begin my interviews.
Jim and Betsy Knowles for giving me a space to broadcast my podcast and being such amazingly beautiful souls.
