We had the good fortune of connecting with Cyn Marie Bastos and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cyn Marie, what are you inspired by?

In my role as an Executive Wellness Coach, my inspiration stems from recognizing the intrinsic links between personal well-being and the broader community. It goes beyond individual growth, emphasizing the human-centric and inclusive nature of wellness, which is foundational to the human experience.

Wellness, for me, transcends a mere goal; it’s a process deeply rooted in the human experience. It involves striking a balance between personal well-being and the health of the community, acknowledging that the well-being of individuals is at the core of a thriving community.

The concept of wellness is akin to assembling a puzzle where personal well-being is an integral piece contributing to the larger picture of communal health. It’s about fostering a continuous journey where the intersection of personal and community well-being resembles a harmonious symphony—a collective effort that includes everyone, creating a flow that extends beyond individual experiences.

At the heart of my work is the belief in the essential connection between personal and community well-being. This perspective recognizes that positive changes in an individual’s life can reverberate, influencing and transforming the broader community. This interconnectedness underscores the practical impact of wellness, making it a cornerstone of the human experience.

Our mission is a commitment to a well-defined vision that envisions wellness as a shared human experience. It’s about shaping a vision where personal well-being contributes to the fabric of our communities, creating a landscape of positive change that is inclusive and reflective of our shared humanity.

In a practical sense, wellness is about persistence and resilience. It involves facing challenges head-on, creating not just individual resilience but resilience within the collective. This persistence serves as a guide for navigating obstacles, recognizing that the journey towards positive change is a shared endeavor.

I take pride in the tangible impact our mission has had, rooted in the belief that wellness is a human-centric and inclusive endeavor. It’s not just about personal growth; it’s about making a concrete difference in the world by emphasizing the connections between wellness and community. Our focus is on building a better, more harmonious world where the benefits of wellness extend beyond individual lives, embracing the diverse and inclusive nature of the human experience.

In our practical journey of wellness, centered on a clear vision, determination, and community impact, we continue to work towards positive change. This approach is rooted in the understanding that wellness is not only personal but a shared human experience, essential for the thriving and inclusivity of communities.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were visiting Raleigh, NC, I’d ensure they experience a well-rounded mix of the area’s vibrant culture, delicious cuisine, and natural beauty. We’d kick off the week with a morning visit to Joule Coffee for a great cup of coffee and then explore the North Carolina Museum of Art to appreciate its diverse art collection. For dinner, Downtown Raleigh offers a culinary gem in Bida Manda, where Laotian cuisine takes center stage.

The second day would be dedicated to nature and relaxation. A morning stroll through the Sarah P. Duke Gardens in nearby Durham sets a serene tone. Lunch at The Pit BBQ, a local barbecue favorite, precedes an evening unwind at William B. Umstead State Park for a nature walk or bike ride. Dinner at Poole’s Diner in downtown Raleigh rounds out the day.

Cultural exploration takes precedence on day three. The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences is a must-visit in the morning, followed by lunch at Beasley’s Chicken + Honey. The evening could be reserved for a live performance at the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts or an exploration of the local craft beer scene.

Day four delves into Raleigh’s historic side, beginning with a visit to Yates Mill County Park in the morning and lunch at Clyde Cooper’s BBQ. An evening walk around the Historic Oakwood District, with its well-preserved 19th-century homes, leads to dinner at Brewery Bhavana.

For a change of scenery on day five, a day trip to Durham includes exploring the Durham Bulls Athletic Park and the American Tobacco Campus. Lunch at Pizzeria Toro and an evening performance at the Durham Performing Arts Center can be followed by dinner at Mateo Bar de Tapas.

Day six offers an outdoor adventure at Lake Johnson Park in the morning, with a mix of boutique shopping and lunch at Raleigh City Market in the afternoon. Glenwood South comes alive in the evening with its lively atmosphere, offering a variety of bars and restaurants. Dinner at Gravy caps off the day with Italian-American cuisine.

The final day begins with a farewell brunch at Big Ed’s City Market Restaurant, known for its classic Southern breakfast dishes. The North Carolina Museum of History provides a captivating exploration of the state’s rich history in the afternoon, and the trip concludes with a relaxing dinner at Mandolin, celebrated for its farm-to-table Southern cuisine. This tailored experience aims to showcase the diverse offerings of Raleigh and its surroundings for an unforgettable visit.
