We had the good fortune of connecting with Corinna Dunn and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Corinna, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
Deciding to write my book Note to Self: Lessons to Trauma & Thriving in It’s Aftermath. It was instrumental in healing wounds that I thought I had healed from. So many doors began to open for me after I addressed those old painful traumas.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My fitness and wellness business Cori Dunn Fitness. What sets me apart from others is my philosophy that you don’t have to spend hours in the gym to get results. My tagline Getting Fit in 20 minutes or less, heavy on the less because we all have stuff to do is what I live by. I am most excited about the growing community on YouTube. It’s a huge platform and getting any traction on there is very exciting.

I got to where I am today through many, many, many restarts. I call them restarts rather than failures because to me failing indicates quitting and that’s not something that I do. No it has not been easy. It was been a very difficult road but anything worth having is going to be difficult. I overcame the challenges by consistently showing up and pivoting when necessary. Flexibility is a must for anyone considering walking the entrepreneurial path.

A major lesson I have learned along the way is that when it is your time, it will happen. You cannot compare yourself to others because your story is not theirs and vice versa. You cannot pass your test if you are looking at someone else’s paper.

I want the world to know that there are so many layers to me but ultimately I am here to uplift and empower others who may have a similar background to mine and be a testament that there is a beautiful, full life after trauma and pain if you are willing to do the work and heal.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Where I live is pretty boring, lol so we would take a roadtrip to VA Beach and Northern Virginia. I would take them to VA beach to enjoy the boardwalk there’s so much to see and do there! We would go to Lagerheads for the best Margherita Pizza ever! We would stay overnight at the Hilton Oceanview then head to the outlets for some shopping and finally towards North Virginia for more shopping and find one of my favorite eateries called Milk & Honey. They serve the most amazing Southern inspired dishes.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shoutout my husband and my children. Their love and support carry me through on my toughest days. I also want to thank my friend and coach Leah Forney for helping me bring the vision of my book Note to Self to life (even though I fought her every step of the way lol) and to my grandmother who is watching over me from heaven and for always encouraging me to live out loud.
