We had the good fortune of connecting with Corey Roush and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Corey, as a parent, what do you feel is the most meaningful thing you’ve done for them?
As a parent, my most significant achievement has been breaking the cycle of generational trauma with my daughter. One of my main reasons for becoming a shaman was to heal my own trauma and prevent its negative effects from impacting my choices and actions. While my past choices were my own, they often came from a place of fear. Shamanism played a crucial role in helping me let go of the pain from my past. A key part of this journey has been focusing on ancestral healing, which has made a huge difference in my life.

When my daughter was born, I promised her that I would take steps to improve myself and ensure that she wouldn’t have to face even a small part of the hardships I experienced as a child. For the most part, I have honored that promise, though it has taken time to address my reactions and make amends where needed. She is growing into a wonderful 9-year-old who often doesn’t realize how tough the world can be, which shows me that I’m on the right path.

My wife and I are also working hard to help her connect with those who are less fortunate and to better understand her own emotions, which has been a challenging yet rewarding process! My wife has been instrumental in helping me see the world from a woman’s perspective and understand the challenges they face. Together, we’re countering the conditioning from our own parents and society, encouraging her to express herself, think independently, earn her own money, and pursue her career. Most importantly, we want her to know that she should never feel the need to diminish herself for someone else’s comfort.

What should our readers know about your business?
Shamanic Healing is a unique form of energy healing that emphasizes self-healing and personal empowerment. Central to this practice is the medicine wheel, which helps us explore the four directions and the primary levels of existence: physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. My guiding symbol is the Norse Wayfinder, or Vegvisir, which serves as a compass, helping individuals navigate through life’s storms, even when their destination feels unclear. It’s rewarding to connect with clients who often come to me seeking direction in their journeys.

Many of my clients are healers themselves, looking for deeper healing as they confront challenging aspects of their spiritual paths. I specialize in intensive shadow work, providing a transformative experience that helps clients navigate the “dark night of the soul,” a common stage in spiritual awakening. I also offer support for upgrading their spiritual energy, facilitating the journey toward ascension—an essential process of raising our vibrational energy to achieve stability and peace.

My practice includes inner child connection and guide connection, helping individuals reconnect with their younger selves and their soul guides. These connections are vital for healing emotional traumas and fostering personal growth. Guides provide subtle nudges and protection, guiding our choices in ways we often don’t realize, underscoring that there are no true coincidences in life.

Rooted in both personal and cultural heritage, I utilize a variety of skill sets developed throughout my journey to assist clients—whether they are on their first healing experience or are seasoned practitioners. I also have attunement with the Akashic Records, helping clients access and navigate these profound resources.

I believe in bridging the gap between where people are and where they want to be. My roles as a catalyst and bridge builder facilitate powerful shifts in my clients’ lives, prompting transformation that can feel chaotic but ultimately leads to clarity and strength. Together, we can connect the intangible aspects of life to make them relatable and practical, revealing that the universe is inherently within each of us.

When clients understand their intrinsic connection to everything around them, feelings of loneliness and hopelessness dissolve. I guide them to see their inner truths, helping them confront the fears that have held them back. I don’t provide all the answers; instead, I hold up a mirror, allowing them to discover their own insights and empowering them to direct their lives with purpose.

When discussing shadow magic, the reaction is usually centered around fear and repulsion. I explain that it represents unlimited potential and possibility that is inherent in all life. The light reminds the shadow of its values, ensuring accountability and balance. To me and others here like myself, this is why the light and dark have to exist together. One cannot be without the other. Full ascension and awakening are the balance of both of these aspects, not the extreme of one over the other.

I take pride in introducing clients to their true selves, witnessing the incredible transformations as they discover direction, purpose, and joy in their lives. It’s fulfilling to help others realize they are not merely observers but the creators of their existence.

One of the most important lessons I’ve learned on my journey is the power of truly letting go. This process has involved releasing relationships, friendships, attachments, roles, and identities that I once believed defined me. It has taken decades of effort, filled with blood, sweat, and tears, to release the guilt and shame I carried since my first awakening.

As we embark on this journey, we not only reflect on the good we’ve done throughout our lives but also confront our mistakes—every single one of them. This realization is why I emphasize shadow work and shadow healing in my practice. We embody both the hero and the villain, the victim and the victor. Ascension involves working through and releasing karma—the consequences of our actions, both good and bad. Free will is the foundational law of the universe, and when we violate it, we must contend with the repercussions.

Recently, I recognized that some identities of myself I clung to were not truly mine; they were imposed on me by others. I realized I had been carrying the karma of those identities for far too long, absorbing their memories and sins as my own. This profound shift helped me understand that the shame and guilt I felt were not mine to bear.

Experiencing this release lifted a tremendous weight off my shoulders and opened the door to growth and heightened awareness. I recognized that who I thought I was, and who I believed I should be, no longer defined me. This moment presented a crucial opportunity to redefine myself and become who I am truly meant to be. Ultimately, the biggest lesson I learned was about letting go and the realization that I am not who I thought I was. I am simply waiting on the other side to embrace my true self, filled with excitement and possibility.

My wife and I love good food, and the restaurants listed above are our favorites, and at the top Poole’s Diner. That Mac and Cheese Au Gratin is LIFE. I love to take hikes in the woods to get away and unwind so Umstead and Forest Ridge Park are some of my favorite locations to explore. The NC museum of Art is always moving as is the grounds to explore. Of course, no trip to Raleigh will be complete without a witchy visit to Dancing Moon to visit the team!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a big shoutout to Dancing Moon! The manager, Caroline Binz, along with the staff, Donnie Lea, the owner, and Cherry Lea, the founder, are all amazing. Every time I visit their store, I have nothing but great experiences, and I always find something special that draws me in. The energy and atmosphere there are wonderful.

I’ve been lucky to have the opportunity to work at Dancing Moon as a guest healer to promote my business, Shamazinghappens L.L.C. This experience has helped me connect with more clients, including one who became my first shamanic student. This inspired me to create a coursebook for my training program. In just under four months, I’ve almost finished the book and have two students, with two more ready to join. This store is pure magic and all the items within.

The unique blessings this store offers touch every person who walks through the doors. You’d be fortunate to visit just once, and I promise it will make a lasting impression on you!
