We had the good fortune of connecting with Constance Foreman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Constance, what’s your definition for success?
I will admit that being a Millennial Baby with lots of influence from the internet and social media in combination with entering a high profile career like medicine, it is challenging to not have super high expectations for myself. With high expectations often comes really low moments when things don’t go my way and I have had to do a lot of evolving to combat an all or nothing mentality. As I swiftly move closer to my 40s, I define success as becoming more resilient and learning how to adapt. I achieve this by setting small goals and striving to be a little better everyday and above all, never quitting without a fight!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Beyond Clinic Walls Wellness is a product of circumstance. Like many people, the pandemic was unsettling for me both personally and professionally and I learned a lot about myself. As much as I valued my career as a physician, then more than ever, I was reminded that it takes more than just doctors visits to keep a person healthy. In fact, most of the work needed to get and stay healthy happens outside of my clinic, hence my business name, Beyond Clinic Walls Wellness. My mission is to help my community understand that being healthy doesn’t have to be cumbersome and no one has to sacrifice happiness and easy living to be healthy.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Wow this is a tough question because I am a little bit of a home body but I’ll give it a stab. On day one of the trip, I would plan to have a dinner date at home. I’d head to Aldi (we have one on College Rd and another on Market Street) and grab items to make a charcuterie board and pair it with a cocktail or wine; I actually consider myself an beginner mixologist so this would be fun for me. I also enjoy cooking so I’d definitely prepare a social media worthy dinner spread and hangout around the house catching up with my friend after her trip into town.

Once my friend is all settled in we’d work on a little exploration. Even though it’s winter, there are still some cool ways to experience the beach. We’d definitely head down to Fort Fisher and check out the aquarium. Since this is an indoor activity we won’t have to worry too much about the temperature outside. On the way to the aquarium we’d stop at Gulfstream Restaurant in Carolina Beach for breakfast; the food is delicious and the portions are hearty. On the way back home maybe I’ll stop at Peach Cobbler Factory and grab a little snack for later.

Other places I’d stop by during my friends trip is Bitty and Beau’s Coffee which is a shop that employees community members with exceptional needs as well as Tap Tea Bar (they have multiple locations in Wilmington, NC) that sells boba. The Kitchen Sink is perfect for a lunch off the beaten path and then we could swing by Edward Teaches Brewery for a drink (it’s 5 o clock somewhere right?). Sauced is super cool for a trendy drink and I always enjoy Elijah’s for dinner. I’d also like to check out the Self Love Museum which looks like so much fun but I have yet to go!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I dedicate my shoutout to Three Ladies in Wilmington (3LW). 3LW is comprised of myself and two good friends of mine, Crystal and Sheri. We all live in Wilmington, NC and decided together that we wanted to create space and opportunity for African American professionals like ourselves to come together and build community. They were amongst some of the first people I met when I moved to NC after I finished my medical training and their friendship has been priceless and I appreciate the support they have given me over the years.
