We had the good fortune of connecting with Cherry Cos and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cherry, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I’ve always done something creative for as long as I can remember. Whether it was writing or art or sewing, it was always something. When I started my cosplay hobby I never thought it would be anything more than just making these costumes by myself, but it didn’t take long for me to realize I wanted to do something more. I wanted to see how much more I could learn and how much better I could get at my crafting skills. I wanted to see who I could reach with my work, because representation always mattered to me. I wanted to see how I could inspire people in the same way others inspired me to be creative. That is where the social media work and the videos and the entertainment all came into play. I knew I wanted to make some kind of career out of this when I realized I was reaching all of these desired goals and then some! My career really shaped itself from there, and it’s only continued to grow.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Turning a hobby into some kind of career and not losing your passion for it along the way is never easy. Finding the “middle ground” is a crucial aspect of keeping that passion and motivation, and for the past 15 years I have spent every day keeping myself in that “middle ground” as much as possible. The middle ground consists of not pushing myself too far, but still challenging myself to create enamoring costumes and entertaining content. It consists of reaching out and interacting with so many wonderful creatives, while also keeping my peace. It consists of always finding the next goal to work towards, while still embracing and enjoying each prior accomplishment to its fullest. Keeping this middle ground has allowed me to continue my passion for costuming and content creating for the better part of two decades now, and in that time I have worked with so many talented individuals and organizations. I am proud to say I have inspired many others to begin their own creative journeys. I started this journey back in 2008 with virtually nothing – no fancy sewing equipment, no friends in the community, almost no social media. But it was just fun, and that fun is what kept me going and motivated me to stay in that “middle ground”.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
This is dedicated to everyone who has joined me in my creative journey, both past and present. All my work is built off of the slices of your time that you all gave to me.
