We had the good fortune of connecting with Charleszetta Ford and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Charleszetta, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I decided to start my business, Better Bodies 4 Us, LLC, because I desired to make a difference in the lives of my colleagues. In August 2005, I began my journey as an educator. My position as a Career and Technical Education Teacher (CTE) was the most challenging yet rewarding position that I had ever had. To my surprise, my colleagues and I were at school, daily, from 7a until 5p or later. Because working out for me was my stress reliever, I went to the gym after work 5 days per week. However, my teacher friends did not. They gave so much of themselves, daily, that by the end of the day they had nothing left. Self-care was non-existent in the lives of so many of my colleagues. My heart ached for them. I knew that I had to figure out a way to make exercising easily accessible. I decided to bring the workout to school. With my principal’s permission, I began offering boot camp style classes after school for my friends weekly. Because of the small amount of money, we as teachers made, my classes were offered for a small fee. If a teacher said that he/she could not afford my rate, I allowed them to take my class at no charge. Change began to happen. My friends began to have more energy at the end of their day. I was overjoyed by the fact that I was not only helping my students but my colleagues. In January 2007 I launched Better Bodies 4 Us. My motto was: “Where the educators’ health and wellness come first!” I am so glad that I took the leap of faith to help my teacher friends.

What should our readers know about your business?
Better Bodies 4 Us, L.L.C. is dedicated to empowering FABulous women, aged forty and beyond, to enhance their health and wellness through virtual coaching. As a Certified Menopause Fitness Specialist, Personal Trainer, and Group Fitness Instructor, I bring over 22 years of experience in the fitness industry to my role as Founder. What sets me apart, hands down, is my ENERGY! Also, my specialized focus on midlife women, addressing their unique needs through a holistic approach. I emphasize weightlifting, increased movement, mindful exercise reduction, and strategic rest and recovery days to balance hormones and promote a purposeful, healthy lifestyle. My programs are designed to be both effective and enjoyable, ensuring my clients look forward to their daily workouts.

I’m incredibly proud of the impact Better Bodies 4 Us has had on women over the past seventeen years. Seeing the transformation in my clients’ lives, both physically and mentally, is what excites me the most. Recently, I achieved my certification as a Menopause Fitness Specialist, which allows me to provide even more tailored support to women navigating the challenges of hormonal changes. This new certification is a testament to my commitment to continuous learning and providing the best possible guidance to my clients.

The journey to where I am today has been anything but easy, but it has been incredibly rewarding. I started Better Bodies 4 Us seventeen years ago, driven by a passion for fitness and a desire to help women and children move more. Transitioning to a full-time business owner came with its fair share of challenges. There were countless ups and downs, moments of self-doubt, and numerous hurdles to overcome. However, my unwavering faith, commitment to my mission and the support of my clients kept me going. Each challenge taught me valuable lessons and strengthened my resolve to make a difference.

One of the key lessons I’ve learned is the importance of adaptability. The fitness industry is constantly evolving, and what worked for FABulous Women in their twenties and thirties doesn’t work now. Recognizing this, I pursued my certification as a Menopause Fitness Specialist to better serve my clients’ current needs. Another important lesson is the value of perseverance. Building a business requires resilience and a positive mindset. It’s crucial to stay focused on your goals, even when the going gets tough. Lastly, I’ve learned the power of community. The relationships I’ve built with my clients and the mutual support we provide each other are invaluable.

Better Bodies 4 Us is more than just a fitness brand; it’s a movement dedicated to helping FABulous women lead healthier, more empowered lives. I want the world to know that age is just a number, and it’s never too late to prioritize your health and wellness. My journey in the fitness industry spans over two decades, and my dedication to my clients has only grown stronger. I’m here to support busy, menopausal women who are struggling with weight gain due to hormonal changes, helping them feel good about themselves again. At Better Bodies 4 Us, I believe in the power of a holistic approach to fitness and the joy that comes from moving your body with purpose and passion.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend were visiting, I’d want to show them the absolute best time ever, packed with a mix of adventure, relaxation, and great food. Here’s how I’d plan our week-long trip:

Day 1: Thrills and Adventure

Morning/Afternoon: Kick off the week with an adrenaline rush at Carowinds. With its thrilling roller coasters and fun atmosphere, it’s the perfect place to start.

Evening: Enjoy a relaxing dinner at Mezeh, savoring some delicious falafel and Mediterranean dishes.

Day 2: Nature and Tranquility

Morning: Sleep in so that we are ready for our big hike at Crowder’s today

Afternoon: Head over to Crowder’s Mountain for a challenging yet rewarding hike. The panoramic views at the summit are breathtaking and well worth the effort.

Evening: Make dinner with my family at home

Day 3: Culture and Entertainment

Morning: Explore the rich history and culture at the Levine Museum of the New South.

Afternoon: Catch a captivating movie at the Starlight Regal Theater.

Evening: Game Night (we will definitely have to play Phase 10 with a Twist) and homemade popcorn

Day 4: Breakfast out

Morning: Breakfast at Cracker Barrel

Afternoon: Bike along the Mallard Creek Greenway, taking in the beautiful scenery and enjoying the fresh air.
(ride off the pancakes)

Evening: Visit Trader Joes for ingredients to make homemade pizzas

Day 5: Relaxation and Indulgence

Morning: Complete 1 of my strength videos and then go for a walk in my neighborhood

Afternoon: Binge watch Hulu or Netflix shows (maybe even sneak in a movie)

Evening: Visit with my sister and some of my dearest friends in Charlotte

Day 6: Shopping and Exploration

Morning: BJs for shopping

Afternoon: Visit the U.S. National Whitewater Center for more hiking

Evening: Recover at home

Day 7: Farewell

Morning: Worship service at Forest Hill Church

Afternoon: Brunch at Landmark

Evening: Conclude the trip with a cookout at home with family and closest friends.

In my view, the most fun, interesting, and exciting experiences are those that blend family/close friends with adventure and relaxation. Charlotte offers a rich tapestry of activities, from the thrilling rides at Carowinds to the peaceful trails at Crowder’s Mountain. With a mix of outdoor adventures, cultural explorations, and delicious dining experiences, my best friend will have a BLAST.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First of all, I would like to thank God for giving me the gift of teaching and encouraging others, opening doors for me to use my gifts daily. I’m so grateful for my family’s support in all of my endeavors and, lastly, a HUGE shoutout to Lisa Dalton for recommending me as an inspiring entrepreneur.
