Meet Chandler Couillard | Model and Character Actor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Chandler Couillard and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chandler, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
My work life balance is constantly changing. I go through periods where I am constantly working, and then my body will force me to slow down. It’s important to listen to what your body needs, and take care of yourself as best you can. Work life balance is different for everyone, but I think there has to be some leeway there – you can’t expect yourself to be constantly giving 100% or more and not burn out.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Well, I would not be where I am today without the support of others. I started by myself, with no money and no connections – I needed a creative outlet, and set out to learn. I’ve made so many wonderful friends in this community who have taught me so much (and continue to). It hasn’t been easy, but I don’t think it’s supposed to be.
I haven’t had the opportunity to create much recently because of poor physical health, and it’s taken a toll on my mental health. Being an artist comes with this internal battle of always needing to be working on something, moving forward, chasing inspiration and opportunities and trying to outsmart algorithms – but we all need rest, too. I’m excited about what’s to come when this particular season of rest is over for me. The art I’m most proud of almost always happens when I’m feeling frustrated, like I’ve hit a plateau, and am forced to step outside of the box I’ve placed myself in.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh, this is tough. I’m not really a nightlife person, so I’ll focus on food and nature. I would honestly probably go out of my way to take them to the mountains of NC for a day or two – it’s so beautiful and peaceful. Locally, I enjoy south Cary – there’s a lot of culture in that little area, and a lot of good food. My favorite Taiwanese restaurant is actually currently rebuilding after a kitchen fire – I’m anxiously waiting for them to reopen so I can return and support them again. I take all my friends there!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
So many people have made it possible for me to grow as an artist – it’s impossible to name just one person. My partner is my biggest supporter, and I am forever grateful. My mentor and best friend, Michael Betzner, saw my potential from day one – he has helped me grow exponentially, both as an artist and a person. I am so thankful for my friends and family that believe in me, and encourage me. It’s an extraordinary privilege to have people that love and support me, and I hope to make them all proud.
