We had the good fortune of connecting with Chad Trigg and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chad, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind the success of Trigg Builders has been a commitment to doing things the right way even when it’s not the easy way. As a custom builder there’s constant pressure to manage client expectations, stay on budget, and adapt to evolving project scopes. I’ve found the only way to deliver consistently great results is by staying rooted in honesty, craftsmanship, and a process that keeps everyone aligned. Clients trust us because we communicate clearly, educate them throughout the journey, and hold ourselves to a high standard from design through the final punch list.

I also believe in surrounding myself with people who take ownership and operate with integrity- whether that’s our internal team, trade partners, or the designers and architects we collaborate with. Construction is a relationship business and we’ve found success by building partnerships rooted in mutual respect, clarity, and shared goals. That’s what keeps projects on track and clients coming back and it’s why referrals are the foundation of our growth.

In the end success for us is simple: we improve lives by building exceptional homes and delivering on our word, every time.

What should our readers know about your business?
Trigg Builders holds an unlimited General Contractor license and is based in Charlotte, NC. We can handle all things construction, but we specialize in high-end custom homes and major additions and renovations – with a focus on transparency, craftsmanship, and a process that keeps client, builder, and design team aligned from start to finish.

What sets us apart is our commitment to doing things the right way – not the fast or easy way. We don’t just build houses we help people navigate one of the biggest emotional and financial investments of their lives. That means clear communication, client education, and an obsessive attention to detail. (And sometimes being a personal therapist..)

I’m most proud of the trust we’ve earned and relationships built along the way. The majority of our work comes from referrals and repeat clients and to me, that says everything. I’m equally proud of the team we’ve built. They take ownership, hold high standards, and treat every project like it matters because it does.

Getting to this point hasn’t been easy. I started the business at 24, right in the middle of the 2008 housing crash. There were sleepless nights, ramen dinners, and more than a few moments when it felt easier to just go get a job and work for someone else. There are clients who want the impossible and can’t be satisfied despite your best efforts which can be challenging to navigate. But I leaned into learning, surrounded myself with people of integrity, and stayed focused on slow, steady growth- not shortcuts.

Some of the biggest lessons I’ve learned? Be honest, especially when it’s uncomfortable. Stay rooted in your values – when you operate with honesty and integrity, people of the same character will recognize it, and you can overcome anything together. Know your worth- don’t be afraid to walk away from work that isn’t the right fit. And above all, never stop refining your processes.

If there’s one thing I want people to know about Trigg Builders, it’s this- we’re in your corner, and we care- about the work, the people, and the legacy we’re helping to build, one project at a time.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had a week to show my friend the best of the area we’d be all over North Carolina, we’d start in the mountains and make our way to the coast- a little bit of everything this state has to offer.

We’d kick things off dirt bike riding and camping up at Brown Mountain. Riding is one of my favorite ways to reset and get into nature. From there, we’d head into Charlotte to recharge with great food and drinks. I’d line up dinner at a couple of my go-to spots- maybe The Crunkleton for cocktails and a tomahawk steak, Stagioni for handmade pasta, or explore Optimist Hall for a variety of local eats. Then we’d grab a beer at one of my favorite breweries like Vaulted Oak, Edge City, or Legion.

I’d also take them by one of our jobsites- show off a cool detail we worked hard on or a part of the process most people never get to see. It’s always fun to give people a glimpse behind the scenes and show the pride we take in our work.

We’d catch a Charlotte sporting event- maybe a Panthers, Hornets, or CLT FC game depending on the season. Or if we want the best chance of actually seeing a win, we’re heading to a Checkers hockey game- always a good time and a great atmosphere.

To wrap up the trip, we’d head out to the coast and charter a fishing boat out of Manteo to the gulf stream. Hopefully we’d bring back some fresh Mahi or Tuna and finish the week with a grill-out and party with friends and family. Nothing fancy- just good people, good food, and a perfect end to a classic North Carolina adventure.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
While building a business takes a lot of personal drive, I’ve had key people in my corner who helped shape the path and I don’t take that for granted. Entrepreneurship runs in my family. My dad and several relatives started businesses of their own so the idea of building something from the ground up was ingrained in me early. My mom showed me a different kind of dedication, spending over 30 years with the same company before retiring. That mix of drive and commitment shaped how I approach my own business today.

I also owe a lot to Kevin and Susan Pfahl, who gave me my start in construction. They hired me in college as a weekend jobsite cleanup guy. I quickly fell in love with the process by observation and wanted to learn more. The constant motion, problem-solving, and creative coordination just clicked with how my mind works naturally. Kevin and Susan must have seen that spark and gave me more responsibility early on and before I knew it I was running projects. I soaked up everything I could and at 24 years old- in the middle of the 2008 housing crash- I found an opportunity to go out on my own. With their full support, I took the leap. I absolutely owe my start to them.

I’m also grateful to my team, our trade partners, and my partner Jordan – they’re the ones who keep me grounded, motivated, and focused on the bigger picture. Success in this business takes a village, and I’ve been fortunate to have some incredible people in mine.
