We had the good fortune of connecting with Catherine Warner and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Catherine, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I love risks!!! According to my therapist, I used to have “too high of a tolerance to risk.” I’ve reigned it in a lot over the last 3 years, but most of my life has been flying by the seat of my pants, which obviously translated into my career choices. I’m a person who is driven mostly by the emotions of my heart – so I’m working on creating more structure for myself with more *calculated* risks. I try to zoom out now and see the bigger picture before making those decisions.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My *work* feels like a culmination of all my life experiences and previous career choices. I’m most proud of my ability to learn new things and pivot quickly when the situation calls for it, as it often does in life & business.

I get most excited about spiritual perspectives of the human experience that unify us all, as well as the mind-body connection through Craniosacral Therapy and how self-healing we truly are.

I would say that the path of being an entrepreneur, especially restarting a small business in a new town where you know very few people, is NOT at all easy. The learning curves can be really harsh. I definitely wouldn’t recommend it for everyone. But I absolutely can’t see my life in any other way at this point. I much prefer hard work for myself than any other alternative.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m such a creature of habit, so here are some of my favorite spots I’d want to hit. Breakfast at Hex & shopping at Thrift Pony in Camp North End. Then we could walk down Little Sugar Creek Greenway and go to Optimist Hall for lunch. We would definitely go to Substrate for a glass of natty wine & some card games. If we wanted to do a fancy dinner one night, I’d take her to Restaurant Constance or Supperland. We’d need to carve out time for brunch at Mal Pan & The Lights Cafe over the weekend. We’d also need an entire day in Plaza – Undercurrent for coffee, Okra for yoga, El Malo for some tacos, and Hazy Sunday for some dancing at Petra’s. I’d love to catch a show or see an art exhibit in Uptown at some point – my favorites have been the Brooklyn exhibit & when Neil deGrasse Tyson did a talk at Belk. Obviously exploring the White Water Center is always a good time or catching a show at the Neighborhood Theatre! My best friend has never seen the NC mountains, so I’d love to do a quick trip to Asheville, drive down the Blue Ridge, and do some hiking, OF COURSE!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Yes, absolutely! First and foremost, MY DAD because he is truly my number one fan!!! He can definitely be hesitant at first to my big ideas, (previous) risk taking behaviors, and seemingly constant desire for change – but ultimately, I know that he loves and supports me, and he always wants what is best for me.

Also, when I first moved to Charlotte, the first few friends I made were so incredibly supportive of me restarting my practice. There are SO many people here in small business (it’s constantly inspiring!) that it would literally feel impossible to me if I didn’t have these people to talk to & learn from – Ariel from Camille Maede, Andre from Chango Enterprises, Caitlin from Caitlin Holbrook Photography, Mercedes from The Meta Hippo, and Chris at Wise Wolf Wellness.
