We had the good fortune of connecting with Cassidy Burel and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cassidy, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Fashion design has always been a passion of mine and I knew I wanted to pursue it as my career. Owning my own business was also always in my sights when I thought about where I would like my life to take me. After I graduated college, I had experienced up close the joy that an individual experiences when they are dressed and are feeling like their best self. An outfit can change your mood in a hot second. I wanted to create this experience for all women who wear CassB. And thus, set out to pursue my passion and develop a business meshing creating this experience and my dream of apparel design together.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My educational career at UNCG gave me the opportunity to create many different types of apparel. For a brief period, I greatly enjoyed heavy coats and thought that that was going to be the direction for my career. But as I participated in more fashion shows, I developed a love for evening wear and apparel. I found that an enormous tulle gown gets more of a reaction from both the crowd and the person wearing it than a simplistic set of separates. And thus, my passion for gown creation was born. I would say that I am now known for my gown creations for both bridal and special occasions.

One aspect of the apparel industry that I believe sets me apart is craftsmanship. Quality is greatly important to me. I know that there are many ways to make gowns but I specialize in quality and fit. There may be cheaper ways to make what I do, but only by cutting corners and opting for cheaper materials. If you want it to look expensive, you have to invest in your craft. Often, that means the price is a little higher. It’s custom apparel after all, and so it ought to be.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend came to visit and our intention was to stay in Greensboro North Carolina, I would split our time both by enjoying the simple pleasures of a cozy home as well as around town to all the best! We would spend the week beginning with a full day of setting our week up for success. One of my favorites things to do is cook and I love inviting friends over for get togethers. We would plan the weeks meals and schedule dinner parties to shop groceries for. While out and about, we would stop in at TJMaxx and pick out new workout outfits for the week. My best friend is a gym rat! The next days would be divided into brunches, getting our nails done, gardening, walking in the local arboretums, doing mini photoshoots and hitting all the best lunch/coffee spots. Most evenings we enjoy staying in and hosting for even more friends and playing our instruments as live entertainment! And what a fabulously full and fun week it would be!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have always felt blessed to have been surrounded by family and friends who have forever been so encouraging. But more specifically, my mom and dad have been instrumental in any success that I may achieve. My mom sat me down in high school and we wrote out a 10 year list of educational, career, and personal goals. We created a timeline during which I would like to have reached these goals, and more specifically, the actions required to meet these aspirations. With her guidance and encouragement, she taught me the skills I needed to graduate debt free to the design school of my choice and set me up for success with any endeavor I set my sights on.

Thank you mom.

To my dad who is always making himself available for any and all business minded questions, I’d like to shoutout you. Starting a business is so intimidating. But having a dad who has walked the road already, makes accomplishing my dream of being a custom designer and owning my own brand much more tang-able. At every turn where I could fall and make a mistake, you’re always there to ground me and direct me to the better path because not only have you’ve lived it already, you want to see me succeed and thus save me from painful lessons in growing my business.

Thank you dad.

Thank you dad
