Meet Caroline Binz | Store Manager

We had the good fortune of connecting with Caroline Binz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Caroline, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
Dancing Moon Books & Gifts’ core mission is for community service. We pride ourselves in curating a safe space for all to journey along their spiritual path.
We began as a church bookstore for Unity Church of Raleigh in the 1980s and was founded as the Dancing Moon in 1990. We started in a small house off of Johnson Street in downtown Raleigh, then moved to Oberlin Road, and in 2005 we moved to our current location at 1840 Wake Forest Road in Raleigh. The dream started with Cherry Lea and Beverly Bockover, Co-owners, with the mission of providing a safe space for everyone to explore their personal, spiritual, journey. The goal of Dancing Moon will always be to encourage individuals on their paths by providing a safe space for folks to ask questions, seek wisdom and guidance from one of our 17 different readers, and heal with one of our many healing practitioners. Having a long-time foothold in the Raleigh community has allowed us to watch people grow, completing our company mission and goal. We love the bonds we have created here and look forward to meeting you soon!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
5 Great Reasons to Immerse Your Self in the Metaphysical Book Shop Experience
In its simplest terms, a metaphysical book store is a book shop specializing in topics such as spirituality, religion, philosophy, and self-help. In addition, Metaphysical bookstores often carry a wide range of titles while providing a physical space to learn with people well versed on the topic there to help you out—something the Internet alone cannot provide with the richness of an in-person experience. A decent metaphysical book shop also sells crystals, candles, incense, and other items related to spirituality and self-care.
If you’re interested in exploring the world of metaphysical books, Dancing Moon Books ad Gifts is a great example of the well-curated metaphysical bookstores available, especially in the Raleigh Durham area. These stores are becoming increasingly popular, as more and more people looking for ways to more richly connect with their spiritual side.
5 Great Reasons to Visit
Not sure where to start? Here are five great reasons to visit a metaphysical bookstore:
You’ll find a wide range of titles. No matter what your interests are, you’re very likely to find subjects and approaches that resonate with you. Metaphysical bookstores like Dancing Moon carry everything from books on astrology and Tarot to books on meditation and chakras. There’s something for everyone!
A knowledgeable and helpful staff. When you visit a metaphysical bookstore like ours, you’ll be greeted by staff members who are passionate about the subject matter. They’re always happy to help you find the perfect book or answer any questions you might have.
You can browse at your leisure. There’s nothing worse than feeling rushed when you’re shopping for books. But sometimes time is vital to allow those books and those topics that most speak to you the chance to make themselves heard. Take your time and browse the shelves at your own pace. A perfect way to find your perfect book!
You’ll find unique items for sale. In addition to books, many metaphysical bookstores also sell crystals, candles, incense, and other items related to spirituality and self-care, many of these items being one of a kind or unique in their own way. A perfect opportunity to pick up some new tools for your unique spiritual practice.
Meeting like-minded people. Metaphysical bookstores are often located in bustling city neighborhoods or lively college towns and Dancing Moon is no exception. It is the perfect place to meet other people who share interests similar to yours. You might even make some new friends!
A metaphysical bookstore usually has a wide range of products for sale that are meant to help those on their journey to expansion and wholeness. They aren’t part of some larger business that might have some items as part of 1,000 other subjects. A truly helpful metaphysical book shop will have passionate and dedicated staff, knowledgeable about the products they sell, and able to offer advice and guidance to customers. They can help you find the right book or product for your needs and answer questions. This personal touch is something that you won’t find online. Whether you’re just starting out on your spiritual journey or you’re an experienced practitioner, a metaphysical bookstore can offer what you most need.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If a best friend was visiting Raleigh, NC, I would take them first and foremost to the North Carolina Museum of Art (NCMA) as the permanent collection is always free, there are 180 acres with artwork all around and great places to eat on campus! Dinner would have to be at Fiction Kitchen as they have the BEST vegan and vegetarian options; their mission and level of service do not disappoint. A fun day activity would be visiting Purr Cup Cat Cafe to have an awesome hand-made drink while visiting kitties that are looking for their furrever homes. For hiking, we would go to the Umstead State Park to enjoy one of the many wonderful hiking trails out there.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Dedicated to Cherry Lea and Beverly Bockover, Co-Founders of the Dancing Moon in 1990. Without their dedication and drive to start the Dancing Moon, we would not have had this wonderful resource in Raleigh for all of these decades. Ms. Beverly passed a few years back and Ms. Cherry is living out her golden years in retirement with her son, Donald Lea, carrying on the dream of the store for her. Shout out to Donald for continuing the dream!
