We had the good fortune of connecting with Cameron London and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cameron, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
The conversation of giving up has been more frequent as I’ve gotten older. I’ll be 29 on Sept. 9th and have been building 1033 Record and my other ventures since I was 13. Many people I started with have stepped away peacefully or just outright given up due to various life circumstances. However, when it comes to me, they all encourage me to continue pushing. I won’t pretend there haven’t been times I’ve wanted to give up, but creation is a fundamental part of who I am. When I have conversations with peers about giving up that pushes me to reflect on the reasons I started. It wasn’t the fame or the monetary gain, it was the passion for creating. Now when I look around I see the hundreds of people I’ve helped attain their goals of music creation. From helping children get their start to helping older artists create their first album… I know now that giving up isn’t an option for me because of all the people looking toward me as motivation to keep going. I don’t ever want to tell someone to give up, but I understand life has those moments. Just keep going as long as you can continue to find a reason to.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
These days I believe I have begun to mature as an artist. Many of my previous thoughts of perfection and desire for attention have dissipated. In place of those thoughts, I now see all of my creations as more of a journal or chronicle of my life. I use each album, book, or video to capture that moment in time to always have a reference of who I was and what I was experiencing at that moment. That shift in mindset has been very rewarding and afforded me many opportunities to express myself fully without the weight of commercial success. I attribute all of my professional development to my parents and grandparents. They gave me the mindset, work ethic, and knowledge of the importance of work-life balance. Although there has been growth, the challenges that accompanied it were numerous as well. I’ve experienced lawsuits, theft, and altercations that were all due to me being young and uneducated at the time. Those hard lessons as a teenager helped pave the way for how I conduct business today.

If there was one thing that I would want the world to know, it would be the words of my late grandmother. “Your name will go farther than you ever go.” I have lived my life by this quote. I know I can’t meet every person and see every corner of the world, but with the art that I’ve created, I pray that there’s a chance it takes on a life beyond me and touches the world in ways I may not get the chance to. Some people have never met me, but they speak highly of my character based on what they hear in music or from their peers. I hope that I am making my grandparents proud.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Unfortunately, activities are not really my thing. I’m a homebody and the bulk of my family lives close by so we have lots of family meals. I actually think my best friend would be the one finding places and dragging me along with her. Since most of my friends live in landlocked cities I personally think they would enjoy some time at the beach.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost I want to thank God for blessing me with the health to continue pursuing my goals. Next, I want to give a massive shoutout to my dad, Melvin ‘Big June’ London, for everything he has done to help me on my journey. I have watched him run his barbershop (JRs’ Barbershop in Hampstead, NC) since I was a teenager. I have also watched him give back endlessly to the children in the community for as long as I can remember. Both he and my mom have been so instrumental in all of my success. I could go on for days listing everyone individually so lastly, thank you to my sisters as well as all of my friends and family who have contributed towards my goals over the years, I’m eternally grateful.
