We had the good fortune of connecting with Breanna Powell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Breanna, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Honestlyyy, I’m still not 100% sure that the balance actually exists! There will always be times when my business needs more of my attention and dinner with friends has to wait. But I think what I’ve learned over time, is that I will never be able to show up for myself and/or my community, if I am not intentional about putting systems in place to ensure that my business can still function when I need to pour into the other areas of my life.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am the owner of The Social Hive, a social media management agency where we get busy on social media so that brands and business owners can focus on building their businesses! What sets me apart from others, is that we create content that is community focused FIRST. We know that as consumers, we don’t always want to be sold something…we want to not only trust the brands we’re purchasing from, but the people running the brands as well. I’m most proud of the way my team and I have stuck to that community first model.

One of the main lessons that I’ve learned along the way is that all money ain’t good money! I don’t have to say yes to every potential client, no matter what season my business is in.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh you asked the right person this! Lol

When my best friend touches down (on Tuesday), first we’re going to Trader Joes to grab all our fave seasonal snacks to get us through the week. For dinner, we’re hitting up bartaco (my fave).

The next day, we’re gonna hit up Brewery Bhavana (we gotta get there between 4p and 5p cause they get busy) for some bomb ass soup dumplings, then we’ll hit up a DIY flower arranging workshop at TG Floristry in downtown Raleigh. After that, we’ll head over to Little City Brewing to hear NiiTO play some live music.

Thursday, we’re gonna get real cute to make it to our reservations at either The Capital Grill or Colletta – depending on what we’re feeling that day. If we go to Colletta, we’ll end the night at AVA rooftop bar for a cute lil dranky drank.

Friday, we’ll make plans to go to Ladies Night at Lip Print Beauty Bar to make our own lippies! Then head to downtown Raleigh to grab good and hit the town.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I love this question! For most of my life, I have been in direct connection with other women entrepreneurs. Starting with my Mama (maternal grandmother), who ran her own salon in Rocky Mount, NC – to my aunt, who has never been afraid to take a risk and try anything from running her own boutique, to teaching peace and conflict resolution to large corporations – to my mommy, who owned a pole dancing studio and has been running her own apparel and treats business since I was in high school. These women, plus all of the ones I’ve met along the way, have been THEE standard for who I am as a person and business owner.
