We had the good fortune of connecting with Bianca M and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bianca, how do you think about risk?
This is a good question because honestly life is about that sometimes with achieving anything you may have never faced before. There is no good or bad way to think about it, you just have to take a stab at it. Nipsey Hussle once said “The game is going to test you, never fold, stay ten toes down”. That quote resonates in my head sometimes when I feel I didn’t take the leap of faith with a particular task, or why I didn’t send an email I’ve been dying to send to a potential client to wear one of my pieces, or just being the shy me, not shoving the camera in my face to model my own pieces. You just got to go for it. There are small risks and there are huge ones that could scare you into a nap (cause that’s what I’ve allowed to happen to me before lol) or just push you away from it. The work we sometimes think will burn us out, will be the same work that puts that fuel into the action. You figure out which route sounds like the move. Being alert and taking lucrative steps can create long term satisfaction. Now even when things are going great, something in our pathway can try and come destroy that continuous happy flow. Skip over (or kick it, no violence though lol), address it, or let it stop you. Out of those three options, it’s only right to go with the first two options. If you have doubt, conquering risks will be even harder than ever if you allow it, in my opinion. I feel doubt and fear personally know your weak spots and test you the moment you are faced with them both. Taking risks in my life has made it easier to take on risks in my career. I would think of a time where I wanted something so bad and what I needed to do to get there. You can’t be stuck in your head though about it. I remember I didn’t make the cheer squad in 6th grade and my mom will tell you how it broke my heart when I got older…like literally took it personally crying and ugly faces…. just to be on each squad up until the end of senior year of high school… and to be captain?? Oh I was determined. I’ve faced different challenges but that was a good example for me due to my love of the sport. Take that risk, try the next month, or year, or day.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
A little bit about my art is I like the concept of slow fashion and the respect for it. For me, sometimes it takes more than a few hours to complete a piece and rushing just never been my thing. That’s how I look at my brand. Quality all the way down to the thread. You see the detail in your clothing when you are purchasing rather it be how thick the fabric is or how light it may feel. Now some may not examine it down, but you have others who often do. I sew for both parties in the same matter.

I try not to compare my journey to others, but I think my “The Curvy Minimalist” name is one of the dopest names created, so I guess you can say that’s what sets me apart. I personally don’t think my pieces are “minimalist” but if you know, you know.

Something I am proud of is my willingness to keep pushing. Even if I am not always selling an item, I’m always thinking (amongst the many other things in my life that floats my brain) of what could be next on the drawing board or how could I add on to something I currently have. I feel like with sewing, it’s a broad category that can be incorporated in many aspects of life and that is what keeps part of my thrill for this industry.

As far as how I have gotten here today…..listen I’m still getting it lol. So that question’s answer will always be pending lol. But as far as the journey thus far, I stayed down to how I wanted my motion to be even if it meant slowing down sales, less marketing, not sewing, etc. It may not always be smart to do that in someone else’s case, but I do believe in God’s timing aligning right with mine. I talk to myself a lot and try to pat myself on the back often to try and keep a clear and clean mindset. I’m an overthinker and that gets rough sometimes when you get too deep into a rabbit hole. I just like to envision myself in an ideal and truthful way, in the highest form most often. I think of the steps I want to take to achieve something, and in those moments that kind of tells me if I’m up to whatever challenge I am placing a bet on.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This is quite a question for me because I stay in the house most of the time (which I am working on), but I have created a folder for outside vibes for my city. Charlotte has its days where it is a cool vibe, or just the city. What I mean by that it all depends on what type of mood you you are in and how you want to vibe out. Personally a good balance of travel is welcomed in my life while living in NC. If one of the out of town girlies come in, it would be something like this: Brunch would either be something chill like “Wrap and Roll CLT” food truck, which to me is a creative curation of a fine dining feel with the ingredients used and just his style of his food items…brunch could also be, Homestyle Kitchen or something from one of the newer food halls I haven’t tried. There are many bars in charlotte with different twists, so maybe aim for a cocktail bar or a quick sports bar for the half off shots! But wait before all the fun, I’m going to suggest some type of exercise. I’m going to assume this friend is coming in when the weather is great. So we either outside with it and get a workout with nature, or we can hit up my trainers at Steady Grind Fitness. If not too tired after, maybe a sit down at one of Charlotte’s food markets which includes books, possibly a bar and food. A picnic is ideal for a friend date for me so if not a coffee shop, then some outside air and food. Nightlife would be open because there are a lot of lounges and again bars to choose from. There are also adult arcade/bowling/game establishments throughout Charlotte.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would have to say God first and foremost, of course. I thank him every day and soak in all the messages I may receive from him, in whatever form. But I feel like this journey along with this being one of the toughest years (2023) I’ve had to endure in my life, he has really lifted me in ways I never thought I could even lift my own finger. I had to play my part and work on my mental as well. My emotions ate me up a lot but some reason I couldn’t not go a day without laughing or finding joy in the smallest things. I’m an overthinker to the point I literally have to snap out of it. I’m proud of me in this stage truly because I feel I’m making the most bomb pieces during a season that had it out for me. I prevail every time, I promise.
But I also would like to give a shoutout to my inner circle which includes my family and friends. It doesn’t matter what it is someone gives word of encouragement, suggestion, or just telling me they are proud be enough for me. I know people put high expectations on support with family and friends, but honestly, you’ll most likely get the most from strangers, and thats okay. I still love my people the same. My dad has been one of my biggest cheerleaders with B.Line. He is always encouraging me to take that extra step. If he thinks of something I should design, he will have no problem calling me and letting me know. Rather some ideas I may not always like, I love the fact that he is even suggesting something to me. All my family is pretty much supportive, but I truly try to support myself the most because thats how I keep it going,
