We had the good fortune of connecting with Becca Wright and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Becca, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
Connecting with other people (customers, retailers, teammates, other business owners), showing them I care, and helping them find their purpose and what brings them joy.

What should our readers know about your business?
Piedmont Pennies are cheesy, biscuit bites of heaven, based on my Grandbetty’s recipe. What started as a family tradition, became my MBA class project during the COVID-19 pandemic, and launched into a small business bakery! It has been anything but easy scaling the business. From equipment costs, to food safety, to distribution… I couldn’t do it without our amazing team of Penny Pinchers that strive everyday to bake quality snacks and take care of our Penny Pals (loyal customers).

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First, I’d head to Rally Pickleball to grab an iced coffee and get a quick match in. Then, I would head to Lower Left Brewing in Lower South End (LoSo) and grab a beer outside with a pouch of Pennies. Next, I’d head to Plaza Midwood neighborhood a support the small businesses, grab a coffee at The Giddy Goat, then another beer at Pilot Brewing (and maybe some more Pennies… hehe). Lastly, I’d spend the day shopping in the best small business boutiques: The Social Shop, The Good News Shop, PaperSkyscraper, Eliza B’s, and The Buttercup.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wouldn’t be here as a founder without my husband, Coble. Coble encouraged me to start Piedmont Pennies during COVID-19, when the business was just a fun idea in my mind, a dream. Throughout the years, Coble has been by my side, cheering on the business and me through the highs and the lows. His selflessness and thoughtfulness at home allows me to better support my team and customers, and I am forever grateful for his love and support.
