We had the good fortune of connecting with Bec Martin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bec, how does your business help the community?
I strive to put as much positivity into the world as possible, be it through my business ventures or in my personal life. I primarily work with women who find themselves in “mid-life” and are often discouraged as to where they are in life versus where they had hoped to be at this point. They often feel as though they have lost themselves somewhere along the way, and it is my job to help them rediscover themselves, as well as their (current) passions and purpose. When we feel better about ourself, we show up better! By helping other women feel better about themselves, I am instrumental in the spread of goodwill and positivity, the extent of which I will never fully be able to discern. I find that very exciting.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am not afraid to jump into something and figure it out along the way. I started my life coaching business in early 2020, not the greatest time to be starting a new venture, but nobody could predict the challenges we all would face that year. Yet, I figured things out, started to grow by offering different services, and seeing what worked and what didn’t. Four years later, I still feel like that is my strategy. I constantly get new ideas and try them out, tweaking my coaching programs here and there, always trying to improve them.

On a personal note, I decided to tackle a project that was a dream of mine. I had written a blog post, which I always intended as a children’s book. Early last year I got to thinking that if I was ever going to accomplish that dream, I had better get started and figure out how to take written text and turn it into a book. With no idea where to even begin, I started researching, made inquiries to a few authors that I know, acquired an illustrator (who happened to be a former coaching client of mine), and ran with it. I’m proud to say that my children’s book, “Bravery: A Baby Sea Turtle’s First Adventure” was released into the world November 1, 2023!

I am also not afraid to continue working on myself. I try to practice what I preach to my clients. I want everybody to “bloom” into the very best version of themselves, including me! This may require a readjustment, or course correction, at times, and I hope I’m brave enough to make those adjustments when needed.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live in the historic district of Wilmington, so I would definitely plan some leisurely strolls through the neighborhood, enjoying all the beautiful architecture of the historic homes. We’d definitely hit one of my favorite downtown coffee shops, the Maroon Monkey. Shopping at the Cotton Exchange and a trip to Old Books on Front Street would be a must! Gelato from GelaRto, while strolling the riverwalk shouldn’t be missed. Dinner at The Vine, and a show at Thalian Hall, makes for a wonderful evening out. The Cargo District is a really fun place to eat, shop, and hang out – such a cool vibe! Be sure to visit “hello, love”, one of my favorite shops. You can even grab a copy of my children’s book there.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My first business coach, Heather Quisel, who has become a dear friend of mine. I have seen her transform herself, along with her career, due to circumstances beyond her control. Yet, she continues to inspire me to show up – for yourself and those around you – no matter what you are pursuing career-wise. Follow your heart, listen to your intuition, and use your God-given gifts; these are all lessons I have learned from her.
