We had the good fortune of connecting with Austin-tucker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Austin-Tucker, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
I find it imperative to have a disciplined work to life balance. It takes an inspired perspective of anything to be able to draw up and create. Having a family and working jobs to support my art has proven to be hard on time management. But Without the support and inspiration from my family and personal life, i think it would be tougher to find perspective.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As a music producer, I feel like the main things that set me apart is the songwriting and authentic producing. I have an in-home studio so everything coming out of it is built and created within. Meaning many if not all of my songs have been produced within the chaos of my real life. In music today, it is tough to find a sound that is genuinely yours while paying homage to and considering the music that inspired people before you. So though the DIY take on music production is possibly a more difficult and sometimes rogue approach, I find it to be so rewarding to the end product.

Some of the biggest challenges within my professional journey is honestly just trusting yourself and the craft. I tell people all of the time that if I didn’t love music, it wouldn’t be sustainable. Art as a whole is so subjective, and I find as the years roll on that people support your art based on a few things. The first being obviously if it is quality, catchy, and interesting. The second being if it is possible for them to see themselves within it. Cultivating sounds, stories, and visuals that can make peoples ears and arm hairs stand up is the goal. But creating a true relationship and understanding with your audience is the glue.

I am very exited about multiple projects I am releasing within the year. Some songs I wrote fifteen years ago and some 15 days ago. It’s a great feeling to see and know that those records are something my son can listen to in sixty years. That is the thing I am the most proud of – making something that is timeless and that is centered in and not a deterrent from my personal life.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The perfect day visit in the Wilmington area would go like this – start the day off with an early morning beach walk with the pups down at Fort Fisher. Locals love this beach for its free parking & overall calmer atmosphere than the more tourist filled beaches.
Once we get the blood pumping and our lungs full of that salt air, we would hit one of the great Coastal golf courses. After golf you gotta recover, so I would venture into one of the many great breweries in Wilmington. My favorite is Waterline Brewing right underneath the bridge. From there, we could do a stroll down the Riverwalk and see the shops and stores. For dinner and a show, I would take them to Rebellion where you can catch some great outdoor music, Bourbon and bites. If the night can’t stop there, we could hit Satellite for a night cap and possibly even grab a taco for the road from Block Taco.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I owe all of my sustainability in music to the support of my loving family, the great people and friends I have made along the way, and whoever is generous enough to keep turning the lights on.
